Are the rankings that bad? Or is the transfer portal creating much more parity?

It really seems like anyone can beat anyone more so than ever. I don’t ever remember seeing so many dominating upsets this early in a season. Even with LSU, our back ups seem to be a bigger drop off in talent than usual.

Portal is showing who can coach and who can’t…Jimbo is in the “can’t” category

Jimbo is in some hot water after this season. He better hope these studs he's got on contract pay off.

I think everyone here saw the Aggies as overrated and will finish 7-5. That one is surprising but not shocking.

Texas was at home and they usually play tough there.

Honestly seems like a normal season with a handful of upsets. These are young players. They won’t play great every week.

Right now it's UGA, followed by everyone else.

That noon game in Austin is a beast.

A lot of our backups were brought in because we just needed bodies. Our depth isn’t good, but can’t blame that on BK

you may be right, but we still don't know how good GA really is at this point.

I will give you Baylor. Nebraska has been historically bad for years now. ND always lays an egg at least once a year.

Florida played two solid teams. Won one and lost one.

With what they owe Jimbo, I don’t see him going anywhere anytime soon. He may be forced to be more of a CEO style coach with reputable coordinators but with what he is owed, 8&4 are screwed. I am just glad LSU didn’t hire the guy.

Rankings are generally worth crap for the first two or three weeks of every season. ND, Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, and a few others who were powerhouses back in the 70s and 80s are always ranked very highly based upon name alone. By the fourth or fifth week the rankings will more accurately reflect the top teams in the country.

Two of these are not like the others.

Baylor was the underdog and lost to a ranked team on the road.

Florida lost to a ranked conference rival.

But to answer OP, super seniors and the portal have evened things out.

For example, Appalachian State QB Chase Brice is a super senior who has played at Clemson and Duke previously.

He is a better QB than anyone on A&M’s roster TODAY. They are young and can improve, but App State was able to go out and get a good QB.

Hopefully this season revolves into a 2007-esque free-for-all. Ranked losses everywhere, upsets weekly, etc.

That would be fun.

Playing for one’s school because you love it happens to be a better motivator than guaranteed NIL money.

You are correct and an expanded playoff field will help even more to spread the talent and create parity. All 5 star athletes will not go to the half dozen schools that have dominated the playoff since its inception.
