Southwest flights New Orleans to Honolulu

I've got enough points to get us round trip to Hawaii. Problem is with southwest I can't book direct from MSY to Honolulu. Even checked Bush Int in Houston. So looks like I will have to book to San Diego or another CA airport then round trip from there to Honolulu.
Any reason to pick San Diego over San Jose or another airport. I don't mind spending one night on the way there so was thinking San Diego.
May spent our time all on the big island so not sire if Honolulu will be where we fly into.

If you're going to spend a night then SD would obviously be nicer than San Jose.
I prefer flying to Cali too as it breaks up the long flight.

Southwest's Hawaii flights are mostly out of California with the exception of Las Vegas and Phoenix which were recently added.
I also don't mind breaking it up, especially since I have young kids. The flight times back to the mainland seem to be afternoon departures (if you're trying to get east of California) with bad arrival times so I especially would rather stop on the way back.

I'll have to check these also. Haven't been to Phoenix in 25 years.
Thinking breaking up the flights may work.

Phoenix is a good option. PHX is in the dead center of the greater metro, surrounded by Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe. So a night there is easy to get to/from hotel/airport with great amenities around you.

How many points are the flights?

Looks like I can get to Honolulu and back to New Orleans for about 80k points per person.
I didn't add them up just started looking. In Alaska now and Hawaii will be my 50th state to visit. Want to go this November if possible.

What is the official definition of a state visit?
Thinking I may have to recalc based on my Delaware and Rhode Island drive thru’s.
