Kelly expresses appreciation for Historic Black Colleges HBCU, 2010 gave keynote address

The Advocate reported that “Not even a tough one-point loss to Florida State could dampen Kelly’s enthusiasm this week about LSU’s first game against an HBCU (Historically Black College and Universities) on Saturday night.”
“Kelly said his own HBCU memories as a young football fan were of iconic Grambling Coach Eddie Robinson, who won 408 games in 57 seasons at the north La school… and those games on NBC vs Southern in the Bayou Classic. Kelly noted that he was tabbed to give the keynote address at the Feb13, 2010 grand opening of the Eddie G. Robinson Museum on Grambling’s campus.”
TTT - This historic news makes all of the mocking and the criticism that national media gave and are giving LSU’s Coach Kelly for coming down south to coach seem absurd. I hope it makes Stephen A and all of the ESPN and USA Today crowd feel very foolish and ignorant upon learning the great character of LSU’s Coach and his respect for black sports history, the players and coaches. Kelly is right where he wants and needs to be.

This story should be the lead on SportsCenter, but we all know it won’t…

I think it’s a shame we’ve not played SU until now. It seems like a good way to build a better community. Baton Rouge desperately needs that.

Why should this lead SC?

When is the last time you turned on sportscenter?

Hey if you just do not watch ESPN, your life will be a happier one...

My whole family went to Southern but I’m rooting for my Tigers. This is great for the community! A lot of these kids going against each other are former teammates.

All of social media will ignore this and continue to obsess over fake accent and a reporter joking with him.

This morning. The lead was NFL opening day and MLB pennant chase. So woke!
And you do realize that any news you see on SportsCenter is old. Your internet machine has all the news you need, instanteously.

It's something to do while I drink my coffee. I guess I could google the results of a dozen MLB games every night...or I could just have the highlights curated for me the next morning in one convenient place.

Consequently, I choose not to watch (or minimize as much as possible).
You, of course, are free to do the opposite. Freedom of choice, you know.

I agree, but it seems like it's only been the last 10 years or so that I recall seeing SWAC teams schedule games against Power 5 opponents. I don't recall Southern playing a major school until Georgia in 2015.

no, it should not. And neither should his recruiting videos. and neither should his anecdotal interaction with local media at noon on a random Tuesday.
The only LSU/Southern coverage should be of highlights of the game. That goes for all teams. I remember when I used to watch sportcenter two times back to back as a kid. Back when it was only sports highlights. Keep all the other crap for the ocho.

We all know the reason why. LSU has played Tulane, UL, SE, Nicholls, Northwestern, and McNeese.....None of those schools has put out as many pros as Southern and Grambling.

I read awhile back a story about Coach Eddie Robinson that he tried to schedule Power 5 schools, but most refuse to play black schools for years.

Some LSU fans are okay with them playing all the white schools in the state, but the two schools that has put more pros in the NFL besides LSU is Southern and Grambling.
I'm not opposed to playing Southern, but this hasn't been the case recently. In the past 20 years, SU and GSU have combined for 5 NFL draft picks; over the same period, LA Tech has 21, Tulane has 17, and ULL has 16.
