Is there any other technology or basic function even that has devolved over the past 30 years more than our ability to count votes?
I seem to recall a time years back when it was considered a relatively simple thing.

yeah - but they were using that old out-dated technology = addition, but by humans - and nobody is perfect.
NOW, we have machines and such that ALWAYs do exactly as they are programmed. Nobody can harbor any notion that a mere 'machine' could have evil intent, and it ALWAYS delivers the desired result.

My neighborhood is. Most people here just want to be left alone. My neighbor on my left is Mr. Hiya and lady on my right is Mrs. Hi. Thats about all I know about them. Retired Navy guy 4 houses down has a FJB banner on his house so I'm pretty sure where he stands. LOL

This. Why are we the only nation on earth that cannot have concrete, official, accurate election results within 24-36 hours of the election?

Many places in Alaska do have to vote by mail. Still no reason for a slow count though.

Very solvable—if anyone in charge actually wanted to solve it. Simply move the deadline for receipt of mail in ballots forward.
