The numbers show it’s an advantage to have the film not play the week 0 game. The team that plays the week 0 game wins 40% of the time. So LSU technically had the advantage and still lost.
Sure, if you only look at that single metric, but there are many other variables in play.
I don’t like the loss either, but I think people need to do a better job of reconciling the condition of this program thanks to Orgeron.
This is a total rebuild and now that the hood is popped, we all see the magnitude of what needs to be done.

It would be okay to play a tough team to start the season if we had an experienced team. Unfortunately I think these games are negotiated years in advance, so you never know what state your team will be in.

Funny we didn’t say any of that after beating Oregon under Miles

When you have a quality disciplined team, doesn't matter who you open with

At least you have ppl watching. Whoever watched the Gumps and their cupcake has mental problems.

How many times do we schedule a big name team for an opener then that team goes out and signs up a scrimmage team for the week before?
3 times in 20+ years

Film of the other team doesn't matter if your own team isn't ready to execute its own game plan.
Exactly. I’ll drop this tidbit I heard on Wagertalk. For a very long time now any team that won in week zero 42% of the time outright lost their second game or did not cover. Bottom line we didn’t execute things that normally we would. It just wasn’t our night. If something were to go wrong it did. Hopefully we got all of our screwups out of the way and play clean ball moving forward. Florida State at times played sloppy too. We were in a position to take that game into OT and came up short. We got a lot to work on but it’s fixable stuff.

I guess if you say it enough ppl will just believe it. Doesn’t make it true however.
GTFO Yall squeaked out a 1 point win in a game where we took an entire half on offense and muffed every punt you kicked. Yall are trash. Yea you beat us, that will be the high point of your season. Congrats on the huge accomplishment of beating a depleted team under a new staff.
The SEC would eat you alive.

funny how many other teams have big opening games, and they manage to do ok.

I think it benefits LSU, to be honest.
Not the way this program has been over the last few years it doesn't.
If you're Bama or UGA right now, it does. At least have a warm up before scheduling the game.
