Looking to extend my WiFi for a better signal in my garage. Distance from my router to my garage is about 50' through multiple interior walls.

What is the most cost effective method with the best results for accomplishing this?

Most cost effective and best results would be to run cable yourself and put an access point in the garage. If you would have to pay someone to do that the cost blows up, at which point the most cost effective would be to get a mesh wifi system and place the units for good coverage.

Since it's an garage, do you have attic access?

Get Google Nest and replace it with yours and profit.

People shite on extenders. But I have one extending wifi to my shed. Gets 80 to 100 Mbps. Plenty for streaming or remote desktop.

Some Netgear AC job but I'm sure there are plenty others. I could set up a mesh, but I'm able to turn off the extender when I don't need it.

For $25 or less you can get an extender. I use a T-P Link for the detatched workshop. Different network name; feeds the laptop, cameras and TV.
