Robin Hood (5 remakes)

To be fair, Robin Hood is public domain so I assume it's a relatively cheap way to make a movie about a highly recognizable character, no matter how many times it bombs.

More like the public at large is obsessed with reliving nostalgia. If reboots and sequels weren't the things making the most money, they wouldn't be making them.

You're not wrong...but at the same time, if the majority of things the entertainment industry gives the public are reboots, reimaginings, sequels, adaptations, etc then how would the public ever show creators they want something different other than to stop watching all of it? And on the occasions the public taps out and says, "Nah...I don't like what you're doing here," filmmakers start ranting about how the fans are "toxic" and the real problem.

It's like Hollywood can't make anything original these days or something.

Less revenue from movie releases + less revenue from DVD sales = less risk taken on new properties and ideas

“ The director's passion for the project was partly inspired by his own experience.”

I may have misunderstood his experience. My point is he made this movie because of experience. Also, an original story btw.

A fun heist/scam movie is always good, unless it's named Oceans 12.

Ocean's 13 was worse.

So the THIRD Ocean's Eleven movie?

Every time I think we've run out of things to remake, Hollywood proves me wrong.

Robin Hood (5 remakes)
Try 18.

And that's not counting the five silent "shorts" that preceded the other 18. The best one is the second feature film, and the first talkie.

List of Robin Hood feature films on Wikipedia

ETA:
Batman looks out of place on your list.
Were any of the Batman movies made before Batman (1989) for adults?

The one from the 60's was the first real movie. It was done because so many kids watched the show to see, "POW!"

The 1989 Michael Keaton Batman started the superhero fad.
In the first four decades of film making, three Batman films were made.

In the next four decades there are 11 named some derivative of Batman, and he's been in four other movies. A dozen Batman movies!

ETA:

The 1973 The Three Musketeers was the best of those.
