Bush hogged the dove field and have a question

Got out y-day and bush hogged the field that I planted with brown top millet
I’m not sure if it was mature or not (everything here was stunted with lack of rain in June and July)
Planning on putting out wheat this Wednesday.
My question is, should I disc some lines through the field?

Disc some lines let the millet dry then set it on fire.

Disc some strips and broadcast wheat oats and elbon rye for a “deer” plot!!!

Thought I should disc some.
I’m not sure I’ll have time to burn it though. Would love to be able to to this but not sure when I can.

So how are you getting away with putting wheat out? Saying it's for cattle/deer?

Erosion control

Baiting a field is not illegal as long as you don't hunt over it.

I can’t find anything that says it has to be burned to put out wheat.

So you will hunt over it? You think erosion control is going to fly? You have some nice GW around you.

I may not be understanding you clearly, so you will be hunting over planted wheat or broadcasted standing seed?

Is it normal agricultural practice to plant wheat without discing lines through the field?

I just reread and I owe you both an apology.
You can put out wheat but only if it’s bare ground, based on what I’ve read.
For some reason I though you could mow and then “seed” with wheat.
I’ll disc some areas of the field this week and will try and burn it but suppose to rain all week here.

Erosion control is a reason to plant wheat in the regs. As long as you apply wheat once and intend for it to grow you are good. If you "plant wheat" every weekend to attract birds then you are baiting. You can hunt on a harvested wheat field, as long as you aren't baiting it with additional grains. This isn't rocket surgery and we are talking about doves...

I bush hogged half of mine last week with it wet. I got a few doves coming. Thousands of pounds of seed on the ground because the millet really yielded a lot.
I would like to lower my bush hog as low as possible and hit it again but this rain is killing me. I have only had two days without rain over the last thirty.

I always roundup the field a week before to let it dry up. Way less debris after shredding

It never lets me down to read the persecution from the wanna be green jeans when a fella wants advice on a little ol’ dove field.
Only disc if you need the fire break or to facilitate broadcasting fresh grain. Important thing to remember is clean ground that’s easy for them to walk on with their little feet. Good luck!

I get dump truck loads of rock salt on the catfish ponds to control water quality. That ground makes for great dove hunting

As in spray or rake? All my hunting buddies plant sunflowers and cut before season opens.
