You have a BMI of 28; technically you are overweight.

Anyone here have a CPAP machine,
I do. ResMed AirSense 10 Respond. I love it.

What brands are the better ones and which should I avoid.
Phillips was the name brand that was recalled. However, there is a shortage of CPAP machines so you take whatever brand you can get. Get ready to get a good night sleep and feel 15 years younger soon.

Why do these things cost $1000 plus...looks like a very simple machine?
I pay a very little a month but my insurance pays the rest even though I haven’t used it since I had surgery in December. When I get home I’ll let you know which one I have

Here's a fact: You don't have to be fat to have sleep apnea, though many who have sleep apnea are indeed overweight.
Have a friend who is 6'2" and 186 lbs. but has sleep apnea.
Hope you have been enlightened.

Jesus. We have a country full of fat, sick, chronically ill people just like Big Pharma and the food industry wants.
Our society isn’t too far off from this. When fiction turns into reality.

The BMI calculator says I am overweight. Nobody else would think so
I’ve never understood those BMI charts. To get to my “ideal BM”, it shows I would have to lose 25-30 lbs. if I did that, I would certainly look very sickly.

responics is the brand used for last 12 years. This is a long term use and you might want to compare the costs of the different delivery systems. A direct purchase from cpap.com may be cheaper than using a service through your insurance. For me it took about 11 months of copay to offset the direct purchase of a machine that will easily go 5 years.
That's crazy. My insurance didn't have a copay. Just outright paid for the machine so long as I was utilizing it regularly.

BMI is dumb if you have muscle. Im considered overweight and borderline obese according to BMI but have 14% body fat.

I really don't know what could be different on any of the machines given what they do. I started with a Phillip's Respironics. Have had it for a little over 5 years or so. Received a new one due to recall that broke down the filter if you used one of those advertised cleaners. Which I did not, but I'll take the new one. I have the humidifier but not the heated hose. Enjoy the new found rest.

You're either full of shite or too fricking stupid to understand math. Or maybe both.
But either way, I would hate to have to go through life like that

If the idea of a CPAP machine seems bothersome...
Look into this alternative:
https://tapintosleep.com/products/
TAP appliance - a custom mouthpiece designed to pull your lower jaw forward and open your airway during sleep. They're not cheap, but are available from many dentists.
I've used one for years with great success. I feel absolutely terrible when I (rarely) forget to pack it for a trip.
Edit - this one is the one i use

I tied the mouth piece for few years and my mouth always hurt. I went to a dentist in lafayette and he was gonna build one for me for about $7000 wtf.
I eventually went back to my cpap machine with the nose pillows. It works great - no mask.

What you mean? I’ve got a BMI of 28.1 and the last InBody scan I did had me at 14.8% BF. I’ve got visible abs so the BF can’t be too far off. I’m not trying to argue with you but want to know your thought process.

Is 2 inches really that much of a difference
Your wife doesn’t think so
That's funny, your wife thinks 2 inches more is wonderful.

I think most machines are pretty similar these days.
It's all about the mask or nose piece. Finding one you like may be the issue.
I have a Luna II and it works great. I use one of the new nose-only masks made out of super soft silcone. I want to try out another type of mask to compare.
I'm a bit overweight, but my issue is my sinuses. Can't breathe through my nose very well. Got addicted to Afrin for while. Still take it sometimes, and I sleep like a baby when I do. Only way I get a restful night sleep. CPAP helps a little, but not all that much.
