OT mechanic help/advice

Wife’s car (‘06 Saturn Vue) just had the alternator replaced. The day the alternator died the AC stopped blowing cold (she noticed on the drive home before the engine stopped cutting on). Didn’t say anything before the repair because I thought it might be tied together. Get the car back and it’s still not blowing cold. The refrigerant levels checked on the high end so it doesn’t need charged. I feel like it has to be something electrical since it happened the same day the alternator went but all the fuses and relays seem fine. Any ideas what we could be looking at? Just trying to get a general idea in case it could be something simple before I bring it back in.

I mean it still runs good. This is the first real issue that was had with it and she likes it. It only has 132,000 miles.

You may need to replace the AC compressor, if your refrigerant levels are fine.

Is the electric fan kicking on with the AC?

Is the compressor clutch engaging?

“Refrigerant levels checked on the high end”
What do you mean?
Elevated high side pressure means the condenser fan(s) aren’t working, th3 condenser is plugged (not allowing air flow over) or there’s a restriction in the system, usually a problem with the expansion valve.

You could probably get $25 k for that.

Clearly the Kanuter Valve.
That model had both left-handed and right-handed. Be sure you know which one yours has.

Did they put the right belt on, and is it on the compressor?

Also, I vote condenser based on not being able to physically tinker.

Find the refrigerant charging connection. Usually right on the end is a self-sealing pressure switch which controls engaging the pully that runs the compressor.
Once you find it, turn on the car .. and the A/C. If the compressor pulley is not turning, tap on the switch with a wrench (lightly). If the pulley engages and starts turning, then you only have a bad pressure switch to replace.
They are self-sealing, so no need to evacuate the refrigerant. Just buy the switch and replace (usually around $20).
That is the easiest troubleshooting to do, and since you have not lost the charge, most likely the first place a shop would look.

The belt runs the alternator and a/c. If the belt was a little stretchy, and the a/c compressor pulley is seizing, the alternator pulley may have been slipping and working the alternator too hard.
Make sure the a/c clutch engages when the a/c is turned on and that the a/c pulley is turning properly. See if any compressor oil has been slung on the underside of the hood. If seizing, may need new compressor $$$
Check cycle switch as stated above.
Good luck.

The 06 6 cylinder model had a Honda engine and transmission. Same one used in the Accord that year if that is what it is.
