I think Schmidt's going to be a good one.

CHS top three pitchers are seniors for 23
Schmidt still might not see the mound for the big games

Catholic is absolutely loaded.

But did Central hire Rob Childress or something? How are they putting out big time lefty after big time lefty?

surprised not to see owen galt on there

Same here, he is #425 overall in national rankings and #5 overall in the state (of the committed LA kids) on PG but couldnt crack the Top 10 in LA for prep baseball report, interesting.

This is how PG currently has the committed kids of out LA:

1. Grant Breaux
2. Michael Ryan
3. John Pearson
4. Hayden Federico
5. Owen Galt
6. Micah Wascom
7. William Schmidt

That's it as far as Top 500 overall players. Landon Victorian is #1 in state and #7 overall in country. Wonder what the story is on Howard (Trip) Dobson out of Catholic.

Schmidt's ceiling is crazy high. CHS-BR will have to replace bats to repeat.

Is he locked into State? Family ties or anything like that?

He committed after the CWS win and I hoped he’d reconsider after seeing where Lemonis is taking that program. And after seeing LSU bring in Wes Johnson.

Jay has established a good relationship with Bass. Schmidt will definitely be one to pay attention to.

HS coaches aren't the key to recruiting these guys. It's all about summer ball.

CHS players all play together during summer, Knights
Once summer is over (end of June), the top ones usually play with a Marucci based team for remainder of summer

as mentioned, Barbe and CHS are part of the Knights org, many other top schools are too. They play summer ball together and if you think the key to recruiting kids at the likes of Barbe, WM, Catholic, etc is the showcase team coach.....yea you would be wrong.

Some of the barbe and otehr top players play national teams. Like JC plays for Knights national, i beleive Galt too. Also Landon plays for the Banditos national team but I can promise the key to them...outside of family, is the HS coach.

Not to start an argument, but your promises are off base. There are little to no scouts in the stands watching HS baseball in BR. Colleges don't want to see what hitters do facing 82 mph fastballs. CHS and Barbe are the exception to the rule. Most HS have 1 guy that can break 85 and usually he can't throw strikes. That fact coupled with HS coaches having very few connections with colleges should tell you that organizations like the Knights and Banditos are huge parts of the recruiting process.

I think y’all are arguing two different things.

777 is talking relationships. As far as contact liaison, it’s mostly high school coach.

You are taking evaluating. The showcases & summer teams are the best opportunities to see condensed talent without the crunch & restrictions of the regular season surrounding it

Jaxson Burch Decommitted

Correct. My OG point that started this was that Jay and company have established a good relationship with Bass at BR Catholic. Schmidt, a '24 Ms St commit, will be one to watch. Our primary resource, if we choose to put some heat on him, will be BR Catholic and not the Knights.

I think he’s the first Jay Johnson commit to de-commit. I’ll have to check on that though

ETA: he is. He committed just under a year ago

Also, I wonder if it could be related to the numbers of guys they got to campus in the current freshman class and also the increased likelihood of getting Kade Anderson to campus due to injury.

I know Jay isnt a star gazer by any means but find this interesting I posted the PG rankings of all our commits 2 weeks ago and our bottom 3 commits for 2023 (if you take out Gonzalez who people dont seem to think is really committed here) were:

#501-1000 LHP Jaxson Burch - LA
#501-1000 OF Griffin Cooley - LA
#501-1000 LHP Jon Cassidy Vanek - LA

And J.C./Jaxson are out now. Hate to bring this up but does anyone have the low down on Cooley. Just noticing he's the 4th OF in the class which seems like a lot if we only lose Crews and Jobert (if you consider him an OF) from the current team. This is assuming Dugas moves to INF this season (and Morgan stays at 1B, but I noticed the 1B/OF position drop on the official roster as well there).

Cooley is another Jay commit, just a few days after Burch. He's a bloodlines kid, with his brother Welles having been a good player for McNeese for several years. The other OFs will be draft risks (Larson especially but also Mitchell and Dale). I'd be surprised if he's not at LSU next year, but I'd be lying if I said the same thought hadn't crossed my mind.

ok yea talking two totally different things. yes much easier to see competition when playing in a showcase

and last barbe game i was at had 8 scouts. hell at the sam houston barbe game ......there was a whole section, over 40, scouts at the game.

and for many kids its up to them to get recruited. have to get your tape out there, get to a PBR showcase or a PG event. Email, email emial etc

but the kids LSU is recruiting...yea this isnt an issue either way. and the coaches on knights/banditos really arent that important. LSU knows the top 15-20 kids in state and the big boys out of state and can watch film all day long with the click of a mouse. they can see the metrics with click of a mouse etc etc.

not to mention the real showcases are like the area code games, team usa etc

some of these early commits are seeing how the portal is now a factor and even though you commit/sign, it doesn't guarantee you a roster spot as you still have to earn it in the fall just to make the team
a lot of teams are not going to wait out the draft either
college coaches have to protect themselves to put the best roster together that they can working under the restrictions in place and it's harder with a later draft
