Are there independent third parties who would be able to do this

Someone would have to care enough or have enough of an interest in the situation to have it filled. A third party is not just going to appear and do this. A professional can be appointed curator but they will change a lot of money.

There is something called a Corroner’s Commitment where the coroner’s office can commit someone but they have to be very bad off for this. They would have to impose a physical threat to themselves or others.

This person is a female and struggles with severe anxiety and depression. She wants help and is getting therapy but needs help with day to day life management. I thought the therapist's job was to link the client up with resources but apparently not. In addition, if you know anything about mental illness, your friends fall away so you become isolated. I'm trying to help her. We go way back and I hate to see her in this situation.
Gonna need to see some current pics of her to fully ascertain situation.

TIA

I suggested looking into assisted living earlier. Is that not workable? She would sell her home and have an apartment type situation, but be checked on daily and helped with needs. She could still come and go as she wished.

I have a relative in assisted living with some physical disabilities and this works great for him. We know he is safe, checked on daily and gets to all of his appointments timely. He lives alone, but isn't alone so to speak.

Sounds ripe for financial victimization and institutional family loss.

The only hope is that someone in the family isn’t a POS with some values to help this person. But alas I’m guessing everyone in the family I s already prematurely running to the casino and track in glee, assuming they beat the large thieving institutions to it.

I think this would be a good solution but it would be a difficult sell to her.

That can definitely be a challenge. I wonder if the therapist could assist in that department. Maybe softly suggesting that no longer having the burden of upkeep of a home would be a plus while still having privacy and freedom.

I guess having a sitter service would be a hard sell, as well. A daily housekeeper who does more than just clean house sort of like an assistant of sorts for several hours a day?

Downsizing might not be a bad idea. Is she a churchgoer? I would try and find an attorney or someone that has experience with trusts. Setup the trust, assets go into trust to cover bills, trustee has fiduciary obligation to the client. Trust terminates upon death. I have a cousin that is mentally handicapped and has one setup. He is functional and has been bagging groceries for 30 years. It would just be wise because that is one less thing she has to deal with reducing stress. But it is vital things are done correctly because this is a situation ripe for someone to screw her over. Attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors/planners all run in similar circles. Seek one out in her area. Setup an appointment and go to the appointment with her.

If she has a trusted financial advisor/planner they can usually point them in the right direction. Make sure they are seasoned/experienced and have a CFP certification at minimum. The money board has some good advice for stuff like this too.

You deserve credit for having concerns about her.
She sounds like an ideal target for someone to take advantage.
The notion of trying to get her involved with a local church group sounds like a good idea.
I suspect her circle of friends is small and becoming narrower.

There are several options. My family went through this with my mom's cousin who had schizophrenia. A court can appoint a legal guardian who does not have to be a family member. Another option is to hire a caretaker to come in and help with home chores, medication reminders, etc. Some community agencies offer assistance for people with disabilities to help them remain in their homes.

In looking at her financial statements her assets are closer to a million dollars, and practically all liquid. If we could find a trustworthy financial manager/adviser I think she'd mostly be fine.

Try Tommy Brennan in Mandeville.

How far away from her are you?

Here is Tommy's site. Multiple members of my family have done business with his company for years, including myself. Reputable group. Other folks may have other suggestions.
