Have you ever tried to get through to the IRS on the phone? If I can finally get questions answered by a real human, this is great.
How do you figure this is a bad thing?

Do they tax you every time you melt about the guy that plows your sister?

THe $600 reporting thing they put in that bill pisses me off. Why in the hell do I need to pay income tax on 99 cent baseball cards I sell on Ebay in my spare time? It kind of makes it not worth doing.

These are not the positions being hired. These are auditors and agents.

Those aren't Agents. Those are customer support. Agents are the ones who do audits.

Isn't the IRS one of the biggest government expense? IRRC it's behind defense spending. Imagine how much fat they could cut if they made the tax rate a flat percentage with no deducts. The IRS is basically a jobs program for accountants

I reckon because it's income

God no. If you ever reach this point in life you should immediately reevaluate your life choices.

I figured, but.... OP didn't exactly give content/context.
"Customer Support Agent" is very much a title in corporate America

Not really. I don't come close to covering my pack purchases with the little shite I sell on Ebay. But because I sell over $600 a year total, I now have to pay taxes on it.

Under this scenario, no you don't

They're going to need them when they start eyeing those 401k accounts

You only pay if you netted more than $600 aka made a profit greater than $600.

You'll get a tax form from Ebay because you sold for over that amount, but it's on you to make the appropriate deductions to determine overall profit which is what you will be taxed on.
