This. It shows they’re very likely to have financial arguments at some point if they can’t have an account together and look at spending together. Separate accounts then require you to figure out how bills are paid, and what is done with leftover money. How do you force the other person to save their leftover money? What about paying for vacations, etc? You’re not working as a couple, you’re working as two separate people. Much less that it makes it easier to cover up spending to cheat on your spouse

I find significantly fewer money issues when we are both responsible for our own accounts. Come together for bills, it works well
This 100 percent

We have seperate accounts but both our joint. We have always had it that away but it really makes sense since she has a business now. But we are same bank snd all accounts are linked snd both can see everything.
Not sure if that counts though

I’ve been married nearly 15 years. Separate accounts.

I meet my eventual wife. She banks with BoA, I do not. I have "X" amount of money with a certain bank to have a line of credit or point deductions on my mortgage. She either has to close her account that may be linked to her car payment or whatever or I have to, which effects my shite. It isn't simple at all for people with assets before they get married. If you get married at 23, sure.
It’s really not that bad. Takes like an hour or two one time to set it all up and consolidate to one checking and one savings.
I get other people like their stuff separate but it’s way easier for us with everything going into and out of one account.
I will say I don’t get the attitude some have where one person makes more money or whatever so they personally have greater latitude to spend. Or they personally have greater responsibility for paying bills. The way we do it is every dime earned is ours and not mine or hers.

You would be wrong.

Really? I’ve been married 22 years and we’ve never had a financial disagreement regarding shared financial obligations.

Bills are paid on time and in full by whoever decides to be in charge of paying the bills. It’s not that difficult. There’s no leftover money cause we each pay half. Fairly simple math if you ask me.

I don’t force her to do anything. She’s my wife. Not my child or employee. I think this statement says more about your control issues than you know. I married a woman who is responsible and has the same (or better) financial values and habits as I do. Choose the right person, and a lot of issues are avoided.

What about paying for vacations, etc?
Each pays half. Again, pretty simple. And if I pay for the whole trip, she pays for meals or airline tickets, etc. it all evens out.

It’s possible to be both a couple and separate people. It’s not always easy, but it’s worked for us. As to infidelity, you do realize people cheat, have been cheating, and will cheat regardless of their financial arrangements? Joint account or a coffee can hidden in the basement, Cheaters are gonna cheat. This logic is beyond stupid.
