Kansas Abortion ballot question was complicated

If you are prolife, how would you have voted here?

That’s pretty confusing. I need a commercial to tell me which way to go here.

The Lefties will tell you it's not confusing. It definitely is. The only thing this did was ensure that a more concise and defined law will be put forth that will probably be more restrictive.
So in trying to be deceptive, they will lose more in the end.

I am pro-life but I would've voted "yes" on that. The issue of abortion should be given to the states to decide up or down. Looks like that is asking whether or not Kansans want to let their state representatives/government decide if they want to allow it or not. I say yes to that. Let the people decide, not 9 people in Washington, which is exactly what 6 of those 9 in Washington wanted - let the states decide.

I can’t believe they allowed this wording on a ballot. When I first heard this I thought it was fake.

I'm prolife and I would vote yes.

That’s how I read it. Is that not what it does?

They could've done without the beginning where it talks about respecting women and life. That is blatant bias and was probably intended to sway voters one particular way. However, anyone with half a brain can read that and know that it's asking if you want the state legislature to pass laws regarding abortion, to the extent of the US constitution, in Kansas. If someone cant figure that out, then they probably have no business voting and having a say in democracy.

I'm hoping that's what it means because that's what it says

That appears to be a very confusing statement for the average person.

If any confusion exists, it certainly favors a 'yes' vote.

What kind of question is this? I have no idea what it means and I am a lawyer. How are normies supposed to understand this?
Any lawyer who doesn't understand that shouldn't be anywhere near a courtroom.

How? Have we really devolved into such a mushy pile of flesh as a society that we have lost all ability to comprehend what we read unless it's a 14 second tiktok? Come on, man. That ballot question is biased, sure, but not confusing.

That makes it sound like it’s only for rape/incest or saving the mother
Posted on 8/4/22 at 9:38 am to TDsngumbo
You realize half the country can’t read past an 8th grade level right?
Posted on 8/4/22 at 9:38 am to LookSquirrel
They’re written like that by lawyers on purpose. It’s meant to confuse people. The Louisiana constitutional amendment proposals are written in the same convoluted fashion.

The problem is many pro-life kansans were told and interpreted the wording to mean that the Kansas state constitution already restricts abortion and voting "yes" would remove the constitutional restrictions already put in place and allow lawmakers to do whatever evil they wanted to do.
It was a terrible situation all around. I personally talked to 7 people already that voted the wrong way because all propaganda and wording of the vote left them completely confused so they defaulted to assuming a kansas constitution would already be "conservative." Nobody knows about the supreme court interpretation in the state.

The lefties know this, but they want to take the victory lap.
All they did was ensure that wording in other attempts will be concise and most likely more restrictive. And once that's set, it won't change. Hope the gotcha moment was worth it.

The Lefties will tell you it's not confusing. It definitely is.
If the voter lacks that background knowledge, I can see how the language would be baffling.
Were many voters ignorant of the state of Kansas law? Maybe so.
quote:As proponents of the ballot initiative, Republicans WROTE the ballot language. In your view, was it their goal to confuse the electorate and cause the defeat of THEIR OWN initiative? If so, I suppose that their ingenious plan succeeded.
in trying to be deceptive, they will lose more in the end.
What we REALLY have here is a classic case of people who HAD knowledge simply ASSUMING that everyone ELSE had the same level of knowledge. In dealing with America's dimwitted electorate, that will usually be a mistake.
