While it’s 100% true, it’s a hard sell once people have gotten use to dependency. The first generation saw welfare as a welcome savior from hard times, the subsequent generations have known nothing else but that dependency.

That is why you have people that do the minimum necessary for benefits instead of working more to get off the system.
I believe the government should incentivize work and give more benefits to those that exceed the minimum and punish those that do little to just get by.
Also, there should be a strict time limit on all benefits.
