Thinking about taking one next year. Any advice on the best cruise lines to take and the best stops to visit? thanks.

I'm on my first Alaskan cruise as I type this. We get off at Seward tomorrow then going to hang out there for a few days before taking the train to Anchorage then flying home.

Been fun. I had no idea what to expect and I would go again in a heartbeat. I'm on Norwegian but whatever. This is my 3rd cruise and an Alaskan cruise is obviously totally different than a Caribbean cruise. A great way to escape that ridiculous heat.

I’d be curious if anyone has taken multiple Alaskan cruises and switches lines.

Wouldn’t that be the only way you could compare?

Took the Princess cruise from Alaska to Vancouver and can recommend it. Flew to Anchorage for the pre-cruise stay at Denali. Had excursions to all points from Anchorage; recommend the Hubbard Glacier and Wilderness excursion. This was a small - 150 person - boat that took us within a mile of the Hubbard Glacier. Sounds far, but all large ships must stay 3 miles away. Saw numerous calving's and the sounds were awesome. Not sure if other lines have that excursion, but, if they do, try to take it.

I have been on two Alaskan cruises, both with Holland America and both Inside Passage cruises from Vancouver to Seward. I like going from south to north because the scenery gets more and more spectacular the farther north you go.

One time we took a land tour after the cruise which included a train trip to the Denali park where we stayed for a few days. The other time we went up a week early and divided our time between Victoria and Vancouver which are two fantastic vacation destinations an easy ferry ride away from each other.

I liked Holland America.

Skip a cruise and design a trip yourself.

Short stops at various locations aren’t enough IMO.

Anchorage

Waste of time IMO.

But you might just be going to the airport.

Uncruise, Alaska Dream Cruises or NatGeo.

Small ships, less time in port, more in zodiacs and kayaks.

I’ve had two cancelled due to Covid but upon my research and talking to several folks that have been it seems like holland America and princess do Alaska the best.
