Buying a vehicle from an out of state dealer

If you've done it, how was your experience? I started the process Friday a.m. with a no haggle offer to McConnell Auto in Mobile, only stipulation I requested was let's wrap it up asap. Needed it shipped
to Memphis area. Was told I would get vehicle Monday after I paid down payment Friday afternoon. That was delayed to Tues...just got message not getting until tomorrow. I know car dealers in general are crooks, but had zero clue it would be this bad.

Ask for Spud there for assistance.

Had just canceled another deal because they were non responsive. The price was great..don't bid back when you know you are getting a good deal

Well that sounds ridiculous. I actually did this twice in the past 6 months. Live in OKC and bought a car in KC... I had a trade in so I went and picked it up. Then bought a truck in Austin and had delivered. Both went pretty smoothly and man did I enjoy not having to step foot into a dealership (other than picking the car up).

Sounds like a shipping issue not necessarily a car dealer issue.

The deal I canceled was because of them being non-responsive over shipping cost. They quoted 1,700, I got a 770 qoute...told them to reduce price to under 800 and deal done..they didn't come back.
Shipping is really easy, have done it 3 times with zero issues. Just think the Mobile dealer has either been lieing or incompetent.

It should be relatively straight forward with a competent sale's person. People are shopping around with the car shortages, and everything can be done over the phone/internet.

If you bought a new vehicle from a dealer, you don’t have anything to worry about. I know you are impatient, but that’s what you have to deal with in this business climate. Just be prepared to pay Mississippi sales tax when it gets here.

That wasn't the deal, was told it would ship Monday. Delayed till Tuesday..ok. Ships yesterday, if you have ever shipped before they tell you when you are getting the vehicle. Guy calls and said 6 hour drive. Probably getting by 5, they will call you. Today nothing at noon, at 3 I said I need to know where it is. Says will be here by 6...now says tomorrow. They will not give me carrier phone number.

i bought a used truck in houston, they did all the paperwork on the spot, paid louisiana sales taxes, gave me a louisiana temp registration paper with dealer paper license plate good for 60 days (i think) and they mailed me my louisiana plates.
easy peasy everything was done right at the point of sale, but i had to pay tax title and license fees right then as well.
when it comes to shipping, i think that may have been the issue if they were shipping it, if you were having a shipper pick it up im not sure why there would be an issue if you signed off on it already, but they do like to get an onsight inspection signed off on in case its damaged in shipping
if its a new vehicle then you should have arranged for a dealer to dealer transfer and pay deposit to your local dealer. then its all on them to get it there to complete the sale, but doing that, they can sometimes sell it out from under you if someone wants to pay more for it they you do. i am a particular buyer so i had a few special equipt trucks shipped to a local dealer for me and a couple of those deals fell through but you get your deposit back and move on.

I've had one sent from Miami to my daughter in VA and I'm in TN. Getting a shipper lined up was the only hard part, but they handled that. It just took longer than I wanted to get the car to her.

I’ve done this.
Bought a vehicle from CT. Shipped it to me.
Got a call when they were 2 hours away, but they had run late prior to the call.
Be patient. They probably have several vehicles to pick up and drop off.
Vehicle was in perfect condition.

This is what I want to know. Will be buying a new vehicle soon. If I buy it out of state, is Louisiana going to frick me with taxes when I go to register it here? They did this to me with a trailer I bought out of state. Luckily the dealer did some sneaky crap on the other end and didn't charge me the taxes in that state. However, I doubt that will happen for a vehicle and will Louisiana charge me again here?

Shipping is tough and expensive right now.

Placed $1,000 deposit via credit card. They mailed me contracts to sign. A month later when it was convenient took a $90 flight Friday from Tampa to Atlanta. Sales rep picked me up and drove me to the dealership, I gave him my signed copies of contracts, he returned with my copies (never saw finance manager), and I drove back with the truck. Smooth as butter.
Finance manager called me Monday saying I had to return the truck, my down payment was against owners policy, I told him the 25k debit card transaction had been not pending but posted and I ain’t bringing chit 600 miles back to you. Finance Manager threatened to not turn my contract in and cancel it. I told him to kick rocks.
I did pay about $7,500 under MSRP in March for a ‘22 truck lol. Got a free yeti cooler too from GM when he called me for a review.
I’m happy.

Transportation is brutal right now. Likely not their fault.
