At what point in your life would you say was your worst time financially? The time when you struggled the most, and could barely make ends meet? What was that time like for you?

Most importantly, how were you able to overcome those financial struggles? At what point did you go from living paycheck to paycheck, to having a comfortable lifestyle? What happened in your life that helped you rise above?

It was when my first wife (no pics, I don't want to scare the small children) out of the blue decided that she wanted to be a semi-pro slut and told me she wanted to divorce my boring arse.
Basically all I had was my clothes, truck, and $900.

When I first got out of undergrad. I took a shitty job making less than 30k. I was living in an apartment with 2 other friends, working full time and going to grad school (and paying for it out of pocket). I was still driving my crappy car that my parents gave me in high school, and was eating tuna, ramen, and totino's pizzas

I changed jobs a couple times while in grad school and finally landed a job in my field of study (until then I had worked in an adjacent field). By the time that I graduated from grad school (3 years after undergrad) I was making over 3 times the income that I made coming out of undergrad.

Honestly my wife was a big motivating factor. That and a desire to not be poor. I understood that in order to accomplish that, I would have to sacrifice and be poor for a few years.

My wife and i got married in July before our senior year of college. My summer job had suddenly gotten eliminated when the owner decided to close down. Before we got pell Grant money in August we got our bank statement for July. We had 3 outstanding checks. We flipped up the couch cushions, dug through the old Nissan and went and deposited $3.95 so that we wouldn't have an overdraft fee. We didn't go anywhere for 2 weeks. Sat in our apartment and ate noodles and tomatoes, ramen, bologna and whatever else we could find. When we got that pell grant money i went out and found a job and swore to my wife that would never happen again if I had anything to do about it. 22 years later and we're happier than ever.

I was let go due to a "change of direction" in the company. I went from 6 figures to 0, just like that. One kid was a senior in high school...the other a freshman in college. Went nearly a whole year with nothing but UE and it actually ran out before I finally found something else...at less than half of what I was earning before. Tough times to say the least.

These posts crack me up. You married her.

"I'm a poor judge of character and she was ugly to boot. But I was attracted enough to a ugly bad broad to marry her"

Makes me chuckle everytime that you idiots don't realize your shitting on yourselves
