Looking at the 54" bad boy with the 22 horsepower Kohler from tractor supply. Could go and pick up myself today.

Or the 60" Toro timecutter with the Toro 24.5 horsepower. Would be delivered by a Toro dealer and set up etc.

I am closer to a Toro dealer than bad boy for repairs. Leaning to Toro for that reason alone.

Thoughts or experience with these 2?

Bad Boy, simply because of the Kohler motor. "Toro" engines were sourced from china in the past. Not sure if they still do.

If you have slopes/hills you're not going to be fond of a 60" cut

My 2 cents... My local dealers work and service what they sell, if you didn't buy it from them they'll work on it but you're at the back of the line. Bad Boy's main design engineer left them several years back and started Spartan mowers, he just sold Spartan to Toro. Not sure if that matters. Toro has been golf course industry standard for years, but those won't be confused with a residential model.

How many acres are you cutting?

This is quite true. You will either find yourself scalping or creating major scars in the sides of berms or becoming a zero turn turned post turtle.

Don't ask me how I know this....

Don't buy one of those cheap stamped decks. Go to a local dealer and get a nice thick welded deck.

Bad Boy has the best bang for the buck. I love mine.

Have 20 acres total, my guess is probably 3-5 of it needs to be mowed. It does have slopes and hills.

The Toro is a welded deck. I can't find the 54" bad boy in stock anywhere near me. They have the 60" bad boy avenger in stock.

Avenger 60"

Toro 60"

Bad boy 54"

These are basically my options

Local dealer that will service what you buy. Don’t buy from the box stores!

Don’t buy it from TSC. They won’t help you repair it when it breaks . Buy from a local dealer that will be there when you need parts or service. Also, a good suggestion of buying one with a welded deck and not the cheap Lowes stamped version.

I'm not sure about Bad Boy mowers if they have a residential crap version like Toro does with their box stores. I wouldn't buy a commercial mower from a box store. With the amount of land you're mowing, you're going to need a commercial mower.

For commercial mowing, I would consider a Scag, John Deere, Toro, Bad Boy, Dixie Chopper, Kubota (if they fixed their transaxle problems). But all from the actual dealer. Don't buy anything from a box store. Usually they only sell inferior products.

I'd recommend adding Walker to that list of quality commercial mowers.

I have the Bad Boy 54” Magnum residential with the Kohler engine. Ten years old and still going strong. For eight of those years I was mowing 4+ acres. We sold that place and now I’m mowing a little less than two acres. With the acreage you mentioned, you are solidly on the line between residential and commercial.

I ended up getting the bad boy avenger 60" from tractor supply. Welded deck, called local dealer who said they will 100% service regardless of where I purchased. It's part of their being a bad boy dealer.

Runs great, like it so far. I cut grass for a local municipality for 6 years in college and rode Toro commercial mowers. Drives different, great cut, plenty of power.
