The 2019 team just scored another TD on Oklahoma.

I'd take the healthy 2019 D (the last 5 games against Ark, A&M, Georgia, Okl, Clemson, with Aranda) over any defense

2011 defense got carved up by a freshman quarterback in the national championship game….21-0.

2019 smokes 2011. It is not close.

2019 Offense would do better than Bama did in NC Game.

So more than 21

To be fair, that defense was on the field almost the entire game and only gave up 1 TD, at the end of the game. LSU offense only got 5 1st downs

shred the ‘11 defense...

Shred... not sure I would bet on that... That 11 Defense was a special as the 19 offense..

In my mind, that 11 Defensive front has the potential to maul that 19 Oline... if that were to happen Burrow would not have time to "shred" anybody...

Saban found a way to punk that defense in round 2. Went right over the top.
Burrow and Company would run up 28-35 points on the 2011 defense.

LSU torched elite defenses in 2019. Come on now.

Nobody, no team (college) was going to shut down the 2019 offense. Period

The 2019 offense would score in the 2011 defense.

Not a ton, but they’d get 24-28.

I think the 2019 defense holds the 2011 offense to less than that.

2011 defense or ugas 2019 defense are comparable.

2019 45
2011 21

Geno Smith threw for 463 yards vs that 2011 defense. And a dude with the worst chest tattoo ever threw for 234 yards against them as well.

In fairness, that was the game plan.

He went 38-65 and had a 7.1 yard average. Every single play felt like we let them pass for 4-5 yards.

They were 7-17 on 3rd down and 1-2 on 4th down with 4 turnovers. Only a handful of plays went for more than 10 yards, and one was a 72 yard Austin catch and run that didn’t result in a TD.

To answer OP is tough because does the 2019 defense play against the 2011 offense?

If so, 2019 as a whole beats 2011 as a whole handily.

LSU

2019 LSU beat
#1 defense in UGA
#3 in Clemson
#7 in Florida
#13 Bama
#17 Auburn

Not 2011 LSU level but good defenses.

I think the score would be something like 24-21, 2019 wins. That 2011 pass rush plus the secondary would be a lot to handle even in today's age of offense. I mean Auburn held us to 23 at home because that was the best D line we faced all year. 2011 LSU had no shortage of DBs and D-linemen to run a similar scheme that Auburn ran. 2011 has the O-line and run game advantage plus you have OBJ, Landry & Reuben Randal running routes. The difference maker is QB. If 2011 had a Heisman caliber QB, I think they win by a TD or FG.

46.1 pts/game by Oregon isn't half as good?

Could you imagine that ‘11 defense paired with that ‘19 offense. That would have been total dominance.

That would be the only team ever worth discussing if they could beat an NFL team.

The 2019 isn’t being stopped by any other college team in history. Nobody short of the NFL would hold us down.

- Mo Claiborne (All-American; Thorpe) vs. Ja'marr Chase (All-American; Biletnikof) *Both top 5 picks
- Tharold Simon (3rd round pick) vs. Justin Jefferson (All-American; 1st round pick)
- Ron Brooks (6th round pick and good NFL corner) vs. Terrace Marshall (2nd round pick)

Tyrann Mathieu off the edge and dropping into coverage, causing more havoc than that 2019 offense could ever dream of. Two future NFL safeties (Eric Reid and Brandon Taylor) covering over the top. Ryan Baker, Lamin Barrow and Stefoin Francois matched up against CEH and Moss. An absolutely stacked defensive line with future NFLers Mingo, Brockers, Edwards and Logan + Sam Montgomery who was a monster off the edge.

Those matchups would be AMAZING to watch, but I think the 2019 offense would ultimately "win". Though they'd be held under 30, which in and of itself would be an accomplishment.

1. He was a sophomore.
2. 23/34 for 234 and 0 TDs.

They weren't "carved up" in that game at all.

See my post above. You people need to revisit that game.

Bama's scoring drives:

5 plays - 20 Yards (FG)
11 plays - 58 yards (FG)
9 plays - 52 yards (FG)
6 plays - 50 yards (FG)
6 plays - 20 yards (FG)
4 plays - 50 yards (TD) *34 yard rushing TD

LSU didn't get beat "right over the top" at any point in the night. Alabama had 1 play that went over 30 yards, and it was a rush.
