Norwegian Cruise Line, what are some of your experiences/opinions

Never been on one of their cruises. What do you guys think? The Haven looks great but not sure if it’s worth the price increase.

We have done one Norwegian cruise. In our experience, Royal Caribbean is superior in every way.

Basically a 7 day bender with the drink package, but i'm a raging alcoholic. IMHO the haven is worth it, even with alot more europeans on their boats, still a bunch of fatty trash on the normal decks.

I have been on a few of them, including a Transatlantic crossing on the maiden voyage of the Epic. I always enjoyed them. The food is way above average on the strength of their specialty restaurants which are well worth the small upgrade in price. The entertainment at the shows and in the lounges is usually very good.
I have also taken the Spirit. It is an older and smaller ship, but we still enjoyed it.
I give NCL the thumbs up.

I've been on one cruise and it was NCL out of Nola four years ago for Thanksgiving. It was better than I expected.
Specialty restaurants(mostly) and my alcohol were included in my price. I upgraded for a little bigger room and a balcony.
I would imagine cruising out of south Florida would be even better with better ships.

My aunt and uncle swear by the Haven experience. They rant and rave about it. But it is pricey!
The reason I don’t sail NCL vs their main competition is that the design of their ships is catered to making you pay more to experience premium deck space whether it’s the Haven or Vibe Beach Club.
For the same money as The Haven, you can do a suite or Aqua Class on Celebrity. Both would be an upgraded experience.

I’ve taken about 5 NCL cruises out of New Orleans. Enjoyed them all. They all were 7 day cruises with 4 ports on each cruise. That’s what attracted me to the line. 4 ports of call and 7 day cruise.
7 day cruises usually attract a more laid back, less Walmartish crowd. A lot of middle aged people that don’t get worked up over stuff. Shorter cruises than that and it’s just a cheap booze cruise or worse.
4 ports so if you do miss a port due to weather or whatever, you still get 3 ports, which isn’t bad. If you miss a port on a 3 port cruise, then you’re down to only 2 stops, and that would suck!
I liked NCL as much as RCCL, but my wife like RCCL much more.

I’ve done 3 NCL out of NOLA. Never did the haven, partly because we weren’t in the room enough to justify it. But I love NCL and as soon as they lift vax mandates, I’m booking another with them.

I've taken a few NCL cruises and I highly recommend them over most all of the other cruise lines. I've never done the Haven though but I'm sure it's nice.

The Haven is legit. We took an Alaskan cruise out of Seattle on the Norwegian Bliss. Our cabin was on the very back of the ship with a large balcony looking to the rear but it was considered part of the Haven. You pay more but in return you wait for almost nothing. You get escorted onto the ship early to the Haven lounge, have a private bar and dining area. We ate almost exclusively in the Haven and never had to put up with crowds or reservations. You also get escorted ahead of the rest when you get off the ship, and also for any shows onboard. There is reserved seating for shows. We had a concierge and butler. If there is anything you want all you do is ask.
I’ve sailed Royal Caribbean, NCL and Disney. The Haven in NCL is the best by far.

Did you try Disney Concierge? That is legit too!

It sounds very similar to The Haven although you do not have a “butler” and there's no designated restaurants. You get priority when it comes to embarkation and debarkation. There’s a private lounge on the upper deck strictly for Concierge guests that have a little bar setup in the evening with a bartender who will make you whatever you like to drink. They also have snacks, light food, coffee, etc. up there throughout each day that is complimentary.
There’s a drink cart that goes around every afternoon to the Concierge deck only – they will knock on your door and will make whatever kind of drink you want, however many you want, etc.
There’s a concierge team (normally 2-3 people) that handle all Concierge guest requests and they typically will take care of any arrangements you need, like get you tickets to “sold out” shows, preferential seating at shows / dining, etc.
Disney Cruises are already expensive as hell…but add in the Concierge category and it can essentially double the price of your cruise.
I may have to try The Haven next time…

Sounds pretty nice on Disney though they have nice cruises regardless of the concierge offering.
After our stay in the Haven, my wife said she can’t see herself cruising another way. It didn’t hurt that we had a nice cabin too. It was a suite with a huge balcony. NCL has come a long way over the years.

Agree. NCL has become my favorite cruise line, although Disney is really high up there too.
When did you guys do the Alaskan Cruise? I hear July is the best time to go. I assume with the Haven it was pushing $10K+?

We went toward the end of April which was their first Alaskan cruise of the season. Previously the ship had been doing a California to Mexico cruise.
We paid maybe closer to $7000 if I remember correctly. They were still limiting passengers and it was early. I’d probably do it again a bit later in the year as April was still a little too cold but fantastic nonetheless. July is probably ideal.
