Main difference I notice between BK and O in recruiting

Besides the not getting the louisiana kids thing, I think this is an odd year where a bunch of kids have reason to leave and we're also coming off a coaching change and 2 .500 seasons.
The main difference is that guys don't pop up on our (the fans) radars as being "Heavy Leans" until they are pretty much committed. It seems like when we hear that player X is leaning toward LSU its because they are gonna commit to us soon. It makes it feel like we are getting the majority of the guys we target. Maybe we are getting everyone we want but probably not, we just don't hear about the guys they go after and miss.
With O and Les before him, We would hear rumors and leaks about every recruit under the sun and then a lot of them would choose other schools and we would feel like we missed on a bunch of guys.
Part of me loves that the majority of the recruiting news I hear is positive but part of me misses playing in the mud wondering if we can land a whale that 9 times out of 10 we won't land.

Two weeks later...
"Must have been playing the coaching staff. Remember recruiting is fluid. "

The one thing I have really noticed is that BK and crew seem to be able to identify kids who have a legitimate desire to play at LSU and then put their focus on them. They don't seem to be going after a bunch of really high ranked kids that want attention. I like the fact that they focus on kids who want to be Tigers. They may not be ranked as high but to me wanting to be here will yield better results.

Looking back on things, it’s clear to me that Orgeron was a stargazing recruiter that valued a splash commitment from 4-5* recruits (regardless of whether or not they fit team needs) over internally evaluated prospects that can play at a high-level while also fill valuable team needs (even though the kid may only be right at a high 3*)

When TigerDroppings posters would be in “the know.” You know you’re not running a tight ship.
CBK is running a professional football team that just so happens to be a school. Part of that is public relations. It’s a breath of fresh air to not have these rumors spreading like wildfire

I think there is a good argument for signing kids that:
-Have good heads on their shoulders and are looking to graduate a Tiger as opposed to using LSU as a steppingstone.
-Demonstrated great character
-Not looking to be the flashiest, but probably means he will stick around for his 4 to 5 years.
Not that there aren't 5 stars that fit that bill or I wouldn't take a 5 star that might not meet all of those, but if we fill the roster with more of those, the benefits will be evident 3 -4 yrs down the road when we have heavy senior classes.

You can say O was a stargazer, and that would not be wrong, but he knew he was being judged by how high his recruiting classes were ranked. He knew he was a talented recruiter ( probably his best trait as a coach), and he wanted to shine in the final rankings. The fans loved it,too. Finally, a few people noticed he wasn’t recruiting to team needs and to fill weaknesses in the roster, but, rather, to harvest the most stars. To say o was not a wise man is an understatement.

BK is not a man in over his head.

I do. I like the drama. It is entertaining. I also enjoy the professionalism with posters like you CC. Thank you for the time you put into this thing!

You are correct but also there is too much money floating around for people not to be in the know. Some are better than others about keeping it. Then there are some that just can’t help themselves and the people they tell who reports it here. I actually am glad we have that to a point because it keeps this place interesting.

BK is not in over his head.
Irony may end up being that an idiot like Ogre, who was way over his head, hit lightning in a bottle, had the great season and BK may never win a national championship at LSU.
It takes a lot of timing and variables to get that trophy including injuries.

Ooof. Saw a couple posts today where Vol was being welcomed back.

O’s implosion/dysfunction and the time with no head coach in place gave other schools the opportunity to get into these Louisiana households.
Now they are saying LSU is an unknown, BK is an outsider and disciplinarian and they don’t want to risk it.
Throw in NIL and being aggressive in throwing money towards these kids and there is a perfect storm to get them out or at least get them distracted for a while.
If LSU puts a good product on the field that will straighten itself out.
