Koufax was the Roger Maris of pitchers.
It’s laughable to have him on the list.

What does this mean, he got lucky because of the lineup? Mariano Rivera wasn't pitching behind him. No Mickey Mantles here.
For 5 years...his prime..
2.54
1.88
1.74
2.04
1.73
And people brag about Pedro's prime few years.

He said he would not include any steroid guys, so the likes of Bonds, ARod, etc were all out.
Steroids or not, if you have an all time starting 9 and Barry Bonds isn't in it, you should not be allowed to talk about baseball for a living.

Who's position does he take? Ruth?..Willie fricking Mays? Ted Williams, the greatest hitter of all time?
I mean Williams wasn't May's defense but he wasn't noodle-armed Barry.

Really should be three teams.
Old school... your Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Gehrig, Hornsby, Ty Cobb, etc. era.
Mid-century... Koufax, Bench, Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Rose, Morgan, maybe up to around Mike Schmidt? ETA: Have to add Jackie Robinson here.
Modern... Clemens, Bonds, A-Rod, Griffey, Pujols, Ichiro, etc.

Agee with above post hard to compare cy young to Clemens

Ryan was the best pitcher that’s ever taken the mound on that particular day on numerous occasions in his career. Probably more so than anybody else. Was definitely not consistent, but when he was on he was literally unhittable.
I don’t see the criticism for that

Ryan was phenomenal. And his longevity was absolutely freakish.

I agree. But as big of a Ryan fan as I am, if I’ve got an all time choice on a game I absolutely have to win, it would be hard for me not to want Randy Johnson on the mound.

Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, Walter Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Lefty Grove- theres’s easily 20 pitchers who had a better career.
Bob Gibson needs to be on that short list.

Nolan Ryan was barely a .500 pitcher

That's a team stat, more than anything.
One year he went 8-16 while leading the league in ERA.

Ichiro was damn good.
Just think if he played his entire career here.

Ernie Banks wasn't a 2nd baseman
Posted on 7/14/22 at 7:55 pm to McCaigBro69
Because a lot of times he wasn't on

Winning pitchers learn how to win. Look at Steve Carlton

Don't forget Cy Young.
Walter Johnson and Christy Matthewson were the two pitchers inducted with Cobb, Wagner, and Ruth in the inaugural class. Cobb failed to get 50% of the vote.
