Am I the only guy who didn't know that the Ramones opened for Toto in Lake Charles in 1979?

Nothing about that makes sense (other than Bobby Kimball was from Vinton).

Joey Ramone said the crowd looked at them like they were aliens. Kimball reportedly apologized for The Ramones during Toto's set.

Any of you baws go to that show?

A little early for me but did see The Replacements open for Tom Petty. On paper, that is a much better match; actually in concert, not a match at all. Felt bad so few people knew or care about a really great band in their prime but it was Atlanta.

Had a former bodyguard for The Commodores tell me a story about them opening for Led Zeppelin in Germany. Very hard rock crowd who was letting them have it from the opening song. Said when Richie started singing "Easy", the crowd all piped down and kind of got into it, though.

Not as bizarre but I saw the Knack open for the Ramones or vice versa. Either way, the Knack’s equipment had been stolen and the Ramones let them borrow theirs.

Nazareth opening for 38 Special was a weird one to me.

The Curse of The Ramones
quote:

“After they finished, Bobby Kimball, lead singer for Toto and a Lake Charles native, came out and profusely apologized to the crowd for having to endure such a ‘horrible band,’ said Hibbs in 2014. “Toto came on, sounding like a bloated synthesizer fart, and we left before their first song was over. It was a monumental night.”

The Afghan Whigs opened for Aerosmith a few years ago.

And Sky Ferreira opened for Miley Cyrus.

Not as strange as some or the aforementioned pairings, but still odd combinations.

Saga opened for Billy Squire at the Monroe Civic Center in 1980 I think and they killed it.

Billy Squire sucked and the crowd started throwing stuff at the stage and chanting "bring back saga"

Those were the days.

I saw Bon Jovi open up for RATT in Lake Charles.

When Bon Jovi finished, I thought, "Damn, RATT has a tough act to follow." But, they delivered.

ETA: Oh, and frick The Ramones.

Yep. The Ramones suck, dude. Noise. If you think anything else, you're delusional.

I saw The Ramones open up for Pearl Jam in Tad Gormley Arena in New Orleans. It was a limited Pearl Jam tour, with only about 6-8 shows nationwide, at the height of their fame.

At the arena, when The Ramones were doing nothing but creating racket and noise on stage, 1/4 of the population was at the front of the stage, going off mindlessly. Nobody knew why.

The other 3/4 of the arena was thinking, "WTF is this bullshite? We want to hear music." The 3/4 totally tuned out The Ramones, and began to meet one another. It was awesome.

I will say this... by the time The Ramones were done, and the crowd was starved for anything lyrical, Pearl Jam gave one of the greatest concerts I've ever attended. I guess the horror of The Ramones made their sound more appreciated than normal.

I mean this from the bottom of my heart... frick The Ramones. They are a commercial gimmick of record companies profiting off punk rock, just like KISS was 70's show rock, Poison was 80's glam rock, and Ugly Kid Joe was 90s grunge rock.

Call them great all day. They suck.

You just called out the Ramones and KISS, and slober-knockered Pearl Jam.

Avoid any and all Sonics within a day's drive of your god-forbiden abode if you know what's good for you.
