Why do parents ask for donations for their kids sports?

This was never a thing when I was a kid. But I'm constantly seeing moms asking to cash app or venmo so their little kid can go to Houston to play a baseball game.

Trashy or ok?

Trash

If the kids want to go to the World Series in Sulphur they should do a car wash or cut grass

Quicker and more lucrative than your normal candy bar fundraiser

Why don't you ask about it in the FB comments? Have some dignity (and screenshot the replies).

In the 80s and 90s, my dad got hit up like every week for donations to sports teams and the playground

You probably did.
In our day it was selling raffle tickets or candy bars. I played BREC Football in early 80s. We sold raffle tickets early in the season and we sold candy bars in front of stores around Baton Rouge a couple of weekends before the season started. I remember posting up at K-mart on College Drive back when I 10 yrs old. We'd wear our jerseys and peddle candy bars for a couple hours.

These apps just make it easier. I don't mind.

I seem to remember fund raisers for our rec Allstar teams to travel in the 90’s, but the kids would actually be doing stuff to raise the money, and it typically wasn’t a vacation destination.

Now, knowing people spend thousands just so their kid can play on a coach pitch travel team, F them asking for money to go to the beach or the mountains for a week.

Because little Literaleigh and Breighton aren't going to become world famous professional athletes on talent alone, baw. They've gotta pay the cost to make it.

The worst is when they take nicer vacations than we can afford then beg for money. Fk that.
