This is still weird to me. I was of the understanding for years that Miami didn't have the funding of a lot of other big football schools, hence why their facilities where behind and they went so long without hiring a top tier coach. I think their NIL is largely one guy

They still don't. It's one single multi-billionaire funding everything. It's not a recipe for long term stability. LSU has a large alumni base that adores football and they don't need a mega-billionaire to compete.

That one guy is under federal investigation as well. If we’re thinking of the same person that is.

Doubt anything comes of it, but he's been the center of this Miami revival. He's the reason Cristobal came back. He's building a stadium, he's doing NIL, etc.

Miami is a small private school that doesn't have a student body that is nearly as crazy about sports.

Think of Rice, Duke, etc.

The Thug U years were the exception, not the norm. We'll see how Miami does going forward with a new commitment from the school and a big money booster. Sometimes that's all it takes.

Ruiz is the vocal one, for sure. But behind the scenes, there are a few other billionaires that would rather not have their voices heard. There's plenty of money now and it's not just one guy.

As for the facilities and money issue that a prior poster mentioned, yes, our department was in the red for many years and I believe turned the corner once the UHealth system became profitable (which wasn't until 2018).

This coupled with more board members being added that are willing to influence the program is what you're seeing now. We have plans to completely redo our facilities (except stadium) to make them as good if not better than any other program. Prior to this year, we had an awful AD that inspired no confidence and as a result, big time boosters that were hesitant to throw money into the program.

It is, but it's a guy with enough capital that he can fund massive NIL classes for a decade without noticing he got poorer.
