I would like to start planning a trip for the wife and I from either Vegas to Seattle or LA to Seattle to hit alot of the National parks on the way.

I would like to camp as we enjoy it and is typically cheaper. But I'm trying to decide if we should rent a car and somehow ship our gear out there or go with a small campervan.

Any of yall done something like this and how did you go about choosing if so?

Thanks.

Seems like a lot of trouble to pack or plan all of that. Maybe looking into glamping?

rent a car and ship gear to a fed ex location, they will hold it for you. The tricky part will be booking camp sites as now most are reservation only so no more just showing up early to get a site. We have camped in every national park west of Denver. Used to be you could show up early in the morning and catch people leaving but now you have to book your site 6 months in advance. It will take some planning and luck.

Yeah, I've booked recently so I know the drill. I don't mind booking way ahead for it, but your right about will take some planning.

Thanks on the fed ex tip. That was one question I wasn't sure of.

My daughter and grandson were camping in Yellowstone when the floods happened. But to your point they packed their gear, everything they needed except the tent, and checked it. They flew Southwest from Dallas to Bozeman and rented a car.

Do not forget about state parks and National Forest lands. Most people know about private campgrounds and the NAtional Parks.

this is what we always do
fly in to a major city, rent a 4 door jeep, ship our gear to a UPS store

Just finished a month long trip out west in a campervan, mostly Utah.

There is so much public land out there that we never paid for a single night of camping. Which made the trip very spontaneous and fun as we did not have to stick to a schedule. We loved Moab, so we stayed there much longer than we originally planned for.

Bureau of Land Managment (BLM) land and National FORRESTS (not parks) let's the public camp up to 14 to 28 days consecutively unless posted otherwise. Vast majority are first come, first serve. We used these exclusively. Obviously there are no hookups, so you need to be self sufficient/contained.

Checkout the Ioverland app. It's a free user based camping app with tons of good info on camping spots, dumping stations, potable water, etc.

Let me know if you want anymore info.

Drive through the Trinity MTNS in CA; from I-5 to the coast where you stay at Redwoods NP. Be careful in there, not much else besides beautiful scenery and dope growers.

Redwoods NP. Go to the field and see the elk herd. Hike Fern Canyon and see where they filmed the Ewok stuff in the original Star Wars.

Lava Beds NP in the high desert. Go caving in the lava tubes. You will likely have the park to yourself.
