Kentucky women killed it with 4 golds and a bronze in 3 days.

8.2cm over the bar according to the metrics. The dude could shatter his own record for years at this rate.

SEC athletes leading the way. Great ten days of track and field for sure.

I love the team competition aspect of it. Let everyone know we clap those cheeks
Posted on 7/24/22 at 10:14 pm to Ingeniero
Agree. That’s what makes the worlds and Olympics so special in T&F. Also, NCAAs.
Posted on 7/24/22 at 10:26 pm to Chingon Ag
US had damn near a perfect met relative to realistic expectations. Only event they really underperformed in was the womens short hurdles.
Posted on 7/24/22 at 10:28 pm to Ingeniero
Man, that was really fun to watch
Posted on 7/24/22 at 10:31 pm to Ingeniero
Damn what a great day/week for our sport. I really hope we get out into a regular rotation for this going forward

328 points is in a word dominant
You take 2,3, and 4th place nations combine the score and USA still wins the meet.

Phil Knight built the new Hayward for Tracktown USA to serve that International purpose. No school builds a track stadium like that just for College athletes.
Being Nike, I'm sure there were negotiations to host it often before they threw money into it.

Just an outstanding 10 days of performances.
Mondo’s world record was the exclamation point. I’m sure Phil Knight had massive expectations and I would say this event met all of them.

The fears were quashed that Americans wouldn't show up like Europeans for the major track and field event in a tiny city in the Pacific Northwest.
Don't know how Eugene housed the visitors but they did apparently.

They put them all in the dorms. Seriously.
They probably cleared out most of the campus just for this meet. I figure the university basically served as a mini Olympic Village, because it already has so many amenities for the students anyway.
It's also always been stunning to me that the USA basically has zero international quality track-specific stadiums and venues (and basically never hosted Worlds because of that) yet America is most dominant and successful and historic T&F nation by a mile.
It's even crazier to think about when track is so engrained into every high school and college across the US, yet outside of the Olympics every 4 years, no one here really even thinks about international T&F competitions.
Hopefully Phil Knight and Oregon's investment inspires other track-loving universities and areas to to the same in an attempt it host huge world meets again soon.
I could see placed like Fayetteville, Arkansas and Austin, Texas being logical place to enlarge their track stadium next, but I don't think the admin even gives a shite about track anymore at Arkansas and I don't know if the extreme hot weather in both of those places would help their causes to host big mid-summer meets.
Thats why the Pacific NW is such a great place for such an event. The east coast somehere like Boston would be really good as well.

The LA Coliseuim seemed like the last big one when it hosted multiple Olympics but then they tore up the track...because football fans demanded it. They were to far away from the action.
We're A football obsessed nation.
I was shocked when I summered abroad in Europe and people filled stadiums like College Football just for a regular meet.
Its great what Eugene did but the governing body will always feel like Europe is their home for events.

I know track is a niche sport here but I also think the USA is just spoiled.
We don't blink an eye at world records and gold medals from our athletes and our college systems are filled with so many of the best athletes from Europe and the Western hemisphere, and most of the population doesn't even know it.
I am always amused watching BBC's track coverage because they go absolutely nuts when a Team GB athlete even gets on a podium. They gush over them like they are national heroes, while we just keep track of golds like it's our birthright and think anything else is a disappintment.
Amazing dichotomy between USA fans expectations and everyone else. And why wouldn't they be... Just look at this:
