"A National Guardsman on the southern border mission left a loaded M4 rifle in an unlocked vehicle Thursday, which was quickly found by a civilian.
"I think it's irresponsible, reckless and a danger to public safety if that's the way the National Guard is doing things," Marianna Treviño Wright, who found the weapon, told Military.com. "If they cannot secure their weapons, how are they supposed to secure the border?"
Treviño Wright is the executive director of the National Butterfly Center, a 100-acre nature preserve on the U.S.-Mexico border. She said there were five vehicles in front of the preserve, some belonging to the National Guard and others being Border Patrol vehicles.
One vehicle had soldiers in it, which drove away when she approached. Treviño Wright saw a pickup truck used by Guardsmen still running and noticed a loaded M4 with a close combat optic, or CCO, attached in the driver's seat. It also had at least one assault pack and multiple floatation devices in the bed."

This is the most guard thing ever.
Wonder it she will face charges for taking it?

Sounds like the civilian was being unnecessarily nosy.

There's another tweet where they claimed it was a "full automatic rifle"

Unsecured weapon?
Someone's about to have a sergeant buried so far up their arse that when the sergeant burps, they're gonna taste it.
Also, how did this woman know it was loaded without entering the vehicle and touching the rifle? As far as I know, standard issue magazines don't have windows on them that allow you to see if there are bullets in them. Wouldn't the only ways to know if it's loaded be to drop the magazine, pull the charging handle back, or disengage the safety and pull the trigger?

You don't find shite in someone's car. What she did was burglary.

If it is a military issued M4, the selector switch is stamped "safe," "semi," and "auto." However, auto is usually a three round burst.

Couldn’t see the stamp when I initially saw this yesterday. After further investigation I see the “Auto” stamp but correct most likely burst. I’ll take a lap.

Yep, non story. She was nosy, doing stuff she shouldn't have been.

sounds like B&E to me
ETA: not to mention possession of an automatic weapon w/o a federal license

I hope not. Seems to me a reasonable thing to do, secure an unsecured firearm and then notify proper officials. She's keeping it from falling into the hands of someone who would use it to commit crimes. I hear thieves are constantly on the lookout for just those sorts of things.

so they are under standing orders to run away rather then contact anyone that might be an illegal trying to surrender.
this is our border control policy under the potato
at least she didnt drive off with the running vehicle they left for her.
can you imagine if she was an illegal? or how about a terrorist crossing the open boarder to find a running vehicle, with a loaded assault rifle inside, as a gift for them for entering america illegally

As I company commander I have been 4 feet up one of my soldier's asses for leaving mundane TA-50 gear in an unsecured vehicle in areas where there were civilians.

Fearing the weapon could be taken by someone with bad intentions, she confiscated it and immediately called Border Patrol authorities
Its uncanny how insane people are today.

Butterflies are important pollinators - which are critical for the food supply.

When it comes to pollinators, bees get a lot of the attention. They’re certainly important, with certain crops relying almost exclusively on bee pollination. But with issues such as colony collapse disorder affecting the world’s bee population, some experts are pushing for a greater emphasis on pollinator diversity.
After all, butterflies, moths, birds, bats, and even some lizards all contribute to pollination.
This month, we’d like to highlight an important and well-recognized pollinator: the monarch butterfly.
Monarch butterflies contribute heavily to pollination as they feed from the nectar of numerous flowers. They travel great distances, allowing them to pollinate larger areas than bees.
But just like other pollinators, monarch butterflies have experienced a major decline in the past few decades. In order to reverse this, it’s important to understand their life cycle.

The newer models are full auto. Get some.
