Serious question. Do you think there will be more big name players defecting to LIV?

What changed was that he was given an option. When there’s only one hand feeding you, you don’t bite it. Most guys said good things about the tour publicly. Now you’re hearing very different things and it’s even from guys who are staying. That’s not because of money.
These guys are getting millions of dollars to play golf. If Tiger Woods didn’t exist they’d be paying for fractions of what they’re making now.
Some guys have been critical of some of the Tour for a while, but obviously the guys on LIV are going to be more critical of the Tour and build up LIV. Some of their comments are understandable (amt they feel like they need to play, life changing money) and others are hilariously ridiculous (the fairness of a Shotgun Start, grow the game).

I am relaxed, I'm not the one building up a bunch of lies which really doesn't impact me all that much.

I think they still have a few more top 50 players in them. Obviously it’s impossible to know, but my guess would be 3 more players in the top 50 join LIV before the end of the year

If that's the case, they'll have a stronger field than 80% of PGA Tour fields

Tiger turned it into something huge. Purses definitely grew but not nearly at the same pace the PGA was making money through sponsorships and TV. The players didn’t get the same percentage of revenue as they did back in 1995. If they did, you’d see $45 mil purses. It was definitely all because of tiger. But what he really did was make golf marketable. These guys make their biggest buck off equipment contracts. As the public spends $600 for drivers and $55 for a dozen balls, a large percentage of that goes to paying players to be the face of said equipment. Not anything to complain about but the PGA was taking in way more and really not sharing the wealth because, well, because there was nothing to stop them.

So only 20% of PGA events have 11 top 50 players with zero of those 11 being in the top 10? Seems a little low but I will trust Mingo

No, that's not how strength of field works. But since you knew nothing about professional golf a month ago, I'm not surprised you didn't know that

Strength of field for LIV is comparing apples to oranges right now as they are called at 48 players. And of course you know they because you know everything
So, using the top 48 players, how many pga events would have a stronger SOF than LIV?

Take a look at the John Deere this weekend. Pathetic

Probably not that many to be honest. But it doesn't really matter because the Tour plays with 130 man fields or whatever

Just looked it up. Currently, there are 27 PGA events using 2021 data with a higher average SOF than the Portland LIV event average of -0.4. Giving them 3 more top 50 players moves them to what? 14 events still greater than LIV? And that’s just PGA events. Not counting Majors or WGCs
Here is the data
LINK
That still seems pretty significant

Well, the Tour lost quite a few top 50 players so your old data isn't all that relevant

Worse than LIV and the Deere.

Ok let’s go through the details. Looking at 2021 SOF data, these events won’t be close to being weaker than a LIV event barring then really making a move for players
Tour champ
Hero
BMW
Tournament or champions
Northern trust
CJ cup
The players
Genesis
Memorial
Bay hill
So that’s 10. Then there are like 3-5 events that look to be close.
Oddly enough, the majors fields are weaker than most listed above using SOF, so that leads to the discussion is SOF really a metric to use when measuring the “do I give a frick” meter. Because the majors are clearly the most give a frick, but their SOF isn’t special
Best way to say it, Sanderson farms had the same average SOF as the us open last year

Qualifiers and PGA Pros. That's why it's stratified. Again, not surprised you don't understand it.

I understand it, just like I understand the meaning of an algorithm. But maybe SOF shouldn’t be what you bang as your drum constantly when the Sanderson farms had the same SOF as the Us open
quote:the answer still showed the PGA tour still had a lot of tournaments before you get down to a field like LIV

I completely understand it, which is why I said you were comparing apples to oranges considering LIV has a 48 man field. Comparing the top 25% PGA tour data to LIVs overall SOF would make more sense
That’s gives you the top 36 roughly in the pga event vs the top(only) 48 at LIV. If you want to truly use SOF and be consistent
