They've made billions off these guys without shoveling much of anything back towards them. As a business, it's worth it. If LSU is pulling in 100 million a year 30 million is worth it to get the money making machine moving. Bigger money universities will not stop and they're the reason the market inflation is so high on bidding. As some point they'll all fill up then you can start getting guys to trickle in. There's too much talent out there to worry about Texas/TAMU dumping on all the elite talent. They can't get them all.
I think on LSU's end, they're still adjusting and getting the wheels oiled. Between legislation and now the camp evaluations, hard to think this isn't moving before the season begins. I'm willing to bet BK has a short list of guys he absolutely must have and they'll give it to him. I'm thinking he's going to focus heavy on oline/dline before anything else which is smart.

Get used to it. College football is dead.

9.6 mil NIL deal for a high school QB recruit (Rashada) will get everybodys attention not surprising shits getting out of control
What happens when they get to the NFL and they can’t make as much as they were making in college?

If True, these type of deals will cause the whole thing to crash. (Hopefully). There needs to be a solid cap with enforcement to bring college football back to where it needs to be. I agree with paying the players, but it should come with caps and restrictions. Otherwise it is minor league NFL. If I was a coach I would definitely head for the pros. Trying to manage a roster with NIL and the Portal has got to be very stressful and frustrating.

I think you’re wrong. Doesn’t matter how many of them are busts, schools with money will continue to dish it out.
That's not how NIL works. Those are boosters/friends of the program setting up deals with players. The $9 million deal for the Miami QB is with John Ruiz. A HUGE Miami alum and supporter. He has a multi-billion $$$ law firm, a healthcare recoveries company, LifeWallet and a cigarette boat company. Which of those companies do you think the QB is really going to represent or show up to to honestly be worth the $9 million contract? The answer is none of them.
This is simply a legal way to buy recruits.

They came outandsaid the real figure is closer to 5 mil. Which is much more believable.
For the record i think this kid is really good. The ball just floats off his hand
I feel like lsu will pick and choose where to spend their nil dolkars

At some point there has to be a market correction for these NIL deals

Oooohhh, cancel the rest of his payments!

Now you understand why Saban was so pissed. I have a feeling he's going to retire due to this
finally a reason for this to (maybe) happen that is believable. i doubt he has enough left in his tank for the "industry" to settle down.
i wonder how many kids will return for a senior year because they may get drafted late and have to take a pay cut....

quote:The first full season for the NIL market (2021 2022), and it has already jumped the shark. For reference, the lowest amount of money a first round pick received in the 2021 draft was 11.3 mill. To offer a high school kid, not even a generational talent, just a really good yearly stud high school QB, 10-11 mill is INSANE beyond words.
10 million is the number that has been thrown around long before this came out so it's definitely believable. Top QBs were getting offers from 2 million - 10 million.
LSU will never get a 5 star QB if we have to offer 5-10 mill. Also, what morons don't understand is that if you raise the prices sky high immediately, WRs, DEs, corners, OTs, big money positions, will all go sky high as well. It's insane that before an actual NIL season starts, CFB is IMMEDIATELY in the hole of giving kids millions to go to college.

It’s a CB bro…. These things change constantly. People need to relax just a little! With transfers these days, you don’t need to pay these kids millions of dollars until you at the very least know who and what they are. I’d much rather see LSU dish out 1 year million dollar deals to kids who are looking for a change and have already proven their worth. LSU could easily find the players they need from other schools who either aren’t producing, aren’t keeping that recruit happy, maybe they homesick, maybe they just want to come to a school that will showcase their skills better for a higher draft spot. Those things will always take precedence over a college NIL deal.
I still think we can easily compete by offering these kids and their family’s an investment type of NIL deal where we would help them to set up accounts to make their money grow, show them how to grow their own money and give them cash to start with. Business sells or not, they would be making money regardless. If they’re NIL grows, their account grows faster. It’s not that hard.

Pay your in state kids and it will usually be cheaper because they are in state kids. Evaluate your out of state kids and get some of these lower 4 star, high 3 kids that are under the radar. Hit the transfer portal every year.
Regardless of what any of you say LSU can not compete in bidding wars with the cream of the crop on a consistent basis. We may pull 1-2 out of state that way, but the ones with money like TAMU, Ohio St, Miami, USC, UGA, Bama, Texas, etc, will spend ridiculous amounts of money to get the top guys.

It's gone absolutely crazy. I went to the Manning passing academy this weekend and spoke to one of the SEC QB's. He told me every scholarship player at his school has some sort of NIL deal.
The gaming companies that pay $200/month to the players so they login and play video games?
Those aren't the same NIL deals that are landing 5-stars

That’s cool and all but that is 3 years of teams in our division buying elite recruiting classes
So just like it’s always been except now it’s in the open and they have to pay taxes on it. Win/win for all involved.

The concern is Texas and A&M. I don't think there's a limit they're willing to go to. I think it means so much that they'll pour their life into buying players.
And if they become so dominant that other teams have no chance of competing, the viewership will fall tremendously for the sport as a whole and it will go back to not being worth spending the money to win.
That’s capitalism.

Nope. It’s exactly as it always was. It’s just in the open now. This is capitalism.

We had “restrictions”. It didn’t stop pay for play then and it won’t stop it now. Just like salary caps don’t mean shite in the pros. The wealthier teams still spend more and win more.

Or for one company to pay market value for what they believe a commodity (player) is worth in an open and free market. Otherwise known as capitalism.
