Bank fishing with 4-5YO

Any salt water bank fishing spots to recommend with a rambunctious 4-5 year old? I want to go along the road in Hopedale but concerned about him being too close to the road with trucks whizzing by.

Just bring him to catch bream somewhere with a small bobber.
Understand 2 things.
1. It’s all about him and he will get tired in an hour or so. That’s when you end the trip.
2. You aren’t fishing when you bring a small child. Focus on them. You will just get frustrated if you try to fish and ruin the experience for all involved.

Old LA 1 toward Fourchon/Grand Isle doesn't have much traffic since the new elevated part was built.
Elmer's Island

Where in the OP did you see a request for fresh water fishing or parenting advice?

It’s great that you are bringing a child fishing. Have fun.
I was just giving my thoughts on the matter of saltwater fishing with a child that small. Could be problematic or boring if the fishing is slow.

Mister Bigfish has obviously had experience taking a child fishing.

No way in hell I'd take a kid that young to fish on the side of the road to Hopedale. Not much of a shoulder and vehicles passing within feet of you.

Drive to grand isle and take him crabbing in the surf.

The old fourchon bridge is what you’re looking for. There’s a lot of grass/ground for when he gets bored. 12-16” float with market bait will keep him interested for an hour or so. If you exit to the right and cast to the very right you can catch some small, but keeper, grouper too.

That is where I go to when I need bream for bait when I go catfishing. I just take my lightest fiberglass rod with small hook, plastic bobber and a few worms from my compost pile.
Then I find a quiet, shaded spot and catch all I need for bait the next morning. Most spots I fish, I can park my truck within feet of the bank and there's enough shaded areas to not be in the sun, especially this time of year.

this is a ton of fun for kids. We do it all the time and they love it. Its still "the beach" to them. You can also let him catch as many hardheads as he wants

If you go the city park route, let him catch a few of those invasive cichlids with the bream. They’re usually pretty easy to spot and cast to and will keep him entertained.

Man, just think of the flathead cats that would love to get hold of that thing on a circle hook......

Rio Grande Cichlid... under-rated fight on ultra light tackle. Great for kids.

Do people eat those? Being invasive, are you supposed to keep them or kill them..or just don’t toss them back in?
