Typical travel contact is 13 weeks but usually easy to extend if you like the place.

Remember you have to pay state income taxes in every state you work in (unless it’s a state without state income taxes).

She needs to be able to easily adapt to any work situation because usually you don’t get much orientation to the hospital (maybe like a day or two tops) and are kinda expected to hit the ground running after that.

It is the smarter option until their salaries catch up with inflation, if they ever do.

Well, as I expected, they're contractors so they aren't making that.

You just simply don’t know anything about this situation. I know a few travel nurses and my job enables me to see peoples salaries who are applying with our company. Travel nurses can easily make $5k/week

I know a little, but that's the reason I asked the question, I wasn't certain.

I'll ask again, as contractors or employees? Because that's a huge difference.

Especially during the height of the COVID nurse staffing wars between hospitals, there were quite a few nurses making more per week than the hospitalists at the same hospital. It is still possible today.

The difference is most travel nurses don't work 50 weeks a year on contract. They tend to work a contract and take a month or more off to travel or veg.

I know someone who did it. The gigs were in places where nobody wants to live, so I assume the idea was get people to stay for a few months.

Is she working now? If she is, and likes where she is, she can talk to HR right now and see if they have any short term benefits/contracts to keep her there. This has happened at my hospital.

Usually, it is much more challenging as a Traveler, since they sometimes get garbage assignments. That being said, the money now is great ($5k/week), usually get a housing stipend as well, and other perks. There is such a shortage now at hospitals, you can pretty much go anywhere.

Yeah she is working now but really wants to do something else. We thought it would be a good opportunity to check out some other locations and make some money at same time.

When you say contractor are you referring to 1099 vs W2? They all technically do contract work but they are paid as a w2.

Travel nurses, since the beginning of covid, can indeed pull in 200k+ a year.

The majority rarely work full time. They’ll do one contract and the. Take off a few weeks or months and swing to the next one. Some do hustle and just constantly work. And even if they were 1099 it’s not that huge of difference. Maybe another 5-10% in taxes

Old college roommate, former LSU football player , has been doing this for decades, single guy(no homo,) makes pretty good cake, goes when and where he wants to, definitely a 1099 gig for him, his retirement will be however he’s handled his money over the years

Sounds like a great way to pay off nursing school debt.

Two friends who a travel nurses in the Cath Lab. One is in Phoenix, the other in San Diego. Both make 5k a week.

I literally cannot wrap my mind around how bad arse that would be.

Both cities are legit.

Curious what would be the hidden downfalls.

Daughter does it. Usually 3 Mos. contract. Has an agency who finds the contracts helps find furnished Apts too. In St Petersberg FL now $85 per hour. Did Baltimore, started at $85 upped her to $105 to stay another 4 weeks. 1st was Phoenix at $80-$90 per hour. Single no kids. Loves it. Also gets a $1000 a month for rent.

What an idiot. Just because you're not aware of something makes it not true?

Did I say it wasn't? I asked a question.
