John Cornyn getting booed at Texas GOP convention for his red flag laws vote

I was a delegate from my county at the 2000 GOP convention in Houston.

I have never seen so-large a collection of out-of-touch, far right wing wackos in one building ... before or since.

Apparently nothing has changed.

Good. And especially so close to his signature legislation... juneteef

I still have the Bush2000 sweatshirt I bought on the convention floor. Cheney’s name not on it because he was not picked until the following month.

The convention was so damned reactionary that W chose not to appear, for fear he would get tarred with the stupidity.

You do not own a county and never have.

I would be surprised if state-level conventions for both parties are not pretty nutty. But the long-timers tend to control who gets sent to the national convention, so it tends to be a saner group than the folks selected at the county level.

That is certainly true of the convention I attended. the national delegates were far more sane. I got the impression that a few of them were actively embarrassed by the state platform.

Not a fan of Cornyn.
