I did it the other day. Paid the 16 bucks and got the gold upgraded to GPU the length of time I had gold for.

If you don't do anything else, it will upgrade your current gold membership to ultimate for the 1 time fee. ($1 if you have never done it before, $16 if you have already used the $1 upgrade).
The only thing different I noticed from the OP was that I only got the extra month the first 3 month I added. So I did 4x 3 month gold cards and got 13 months. Then paid the $16 dollars and I am covered until February 2024.

does any of this work for gamepass for pc or is pc gamepass its own entity? ive been thinking about getting pass for PC soon.
