Leadville Colorado Accommodations

Our place of stay for July in Leadville Colorado caught fire and we no longer have reservations.
We were going to stay at Inn the Clouds but now we are having to look for another option.
Tent camping is fine and was the original thought until we found In the Clouds. We were going to look for tent spots while we were there for next time.
Any ideas of a place to stay in the Leadville area? Looking for basic cheap place to stay.
If we tent camp, Inn the Clouds said we can use their showers for $5

Duke may have ideas if he spots your post. You try AirBNB or VRBO?

I’ve stayed in the Colorado Trail hostel. Nice big room with queen size bed. Block walk from the downtown area.
Think it was about $90 or so.

The motels on the south side of town are nice enough if Inn the Clouds was an option for you. Its Leadville, nothing is sketchy.
Otherwise, check AirBnb or VBRO.
If you end up going the camping route, Ill check on the water situation at the Twin Lakes campgrounds this weekend. Otherwise anything over by Turquoise Lake would be fine.
There will likely be some level of a fire ban at the time too.

Thanks Duke. I remember your thread on this area last year. I even stopped by the twin lakes visitor center but you were not working that day. We will be in that area again. First week of July this year.
The only campground we found to take reservations was Sugar loafin.
All others are first come first serve and dont have a shower.
Thought on the twin lakes area campgrounds?

Mt Elbert was slow but really cool for us sea level folks. We made it. Clear Creek was a great area to explore. Winfield on back past the cemetery to the La Plata trial and on. So beautiful. Missed out on Hope Pass hike.
Checked out the Agnes Vaille waterfall, St Elmo, and a few trails in that area. Was a rainy day for the most part after the falls but we still really enjoyed just poking around.
Independence pass, grottos, and ice cave was a nice filler.
We spent all day every day hiking and exploring. Playing on trails and in creeks. It was hard to leave

Do you know why they have the danger signs there telling you basically that you are on your own? I'd never go after rain.
5 of 6 family members crushed
I hiked it once a couple years ago and was terrified the entire time. Once you get in the creek there is no where to go if those rocks start moving.

Duke are you staying in Colorado for good?

The falls was early in the day. WAs still sunny. Light rain did not start until about 1pm or so. This was the typical weather pattern all week
Yes. A family was crushed a few years back.
I took off my shirt and soaked myself in the falls. Was COLD

We’ve been in BV all week, leaving tomorrow.
been all over the passes to the west of town, rafting the Arkansas, live music, good eats, friendly people
right now I’m in a private hot spring drinking coffee and watching cottonwood creek

Nice. We camped at BV overlook. Found some really good secluded camping spots for next time.
I can park my arse in the middle of the woods with a tent, back of my truck, or a log shelter for a week and be the happiest ever.
Hike for hours, tinker around the creeks, and sit around at night doing nothing. Perfect

Yep.
Not many people get to wake up to Elbert out their window. And my daughter loves it up here. 1 year old and already tearing off on trails.

Pretty damn sure I saw you on the 4th or some other baw was milling around Twin Lakes in an LSU hat.

Maybe so. I stopped at the visitor center, then headed up to the pass, and then the grottos area. Had a few people tell me go tigers.

Are you still gonna participate in the weather threads for SE Louisiana?

We rented one of those little 2 bedroom cabins next to the Inn at Twin Lakes in Jan 2020. Then drove over to Ski Cooper. It was incredible and real cheap comparatively. You drive a bit going through Leadville but the scenery is fantastic. I would love to go back and stay at the same place for the summer.
