A bunch of armed white baws, think it would be pretty low.

There were 3,576 violent crimes reported in Anchorage in 2020, or 1,171 for every 100,000 people, nearly three times the national violent crime rate.

Because the cost of living is terrible. Booze is incredibly expensive, and it’s cold as shite half of the year.

Not to mention, a bear might eat your face off at any time

Alcoholism and shitty weather make for a depressing, nihilistic place to live.

It’s probably just caused by shitty Russian culture wafting over from across the ocean.

I suspect a lot of low life transients that are there because they're probably running from something(s)

It’s where criminals go to find work with no questions asked.

Alaska is a place one goes if they want to disappear. I’m sure that attracts a certain type of person.

Hispanic gangs, Samoan gangs, drunk natives, white dudes who drifted up there to get away from whatever they couldn't or wouldn't deal with at home. Lots of meth. Alaska is a paradise because of the scenery, not the people, many of whom are trashy AF.

There's a ton of destitute and homeless there. My dad pointed out that if you go up there for manual labor and for whatever reason lose your job - drugs, crime, injury - it's not exactly easy or cheap to leave so you're just kind of stuck there until you die.

This means a lot of people whose life took hard turns are just stuck there doing what they feel they have to in order to survive.

The same reason you find families who are generationally criminal elements living along state lines. Great great great Grandpappy was on the run, crossed the line and here we are. Bootleggers, dope growers, and now mostly methhead copper thieves.

I had no idea that this was a problem until I met a family at Disney World from Wisconsin. They had moved to Wisconsin to escape the crime in Alaska. I told them that I had no idea that crime was bad in Alaska.
