Am I dreaming, imagining, or making this up re: World Cup Draw

So the US is in Group B and have England and Iran in it? Is it just me or have they not been grouped with these teams in recent past? I remember that Iran embarrassed the US and England was a draw.

We lost to Iran in WC 1998.

I find it weird that Ghana is not in our Group

Iran 1998, where we lost to Ali Daei and the golden generation of Iran. Daei had more international goals than anyone until Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed him this year.
England in 2010, where we won the EASY group. The British newspaper (maybe the Sun) had the headline
England
Algeria
Slovenia
Yanks
And thanks to Donovan’s amazing goal against Algeria and Robby Green’s huge goalkeeping mistake, we won the group.
But there are only so many teams we can play, so that isn’t all that surprising.

I know it would've taken away the memorable moment in US soccer history, but we should've had 4 points going into that game. That ref took away a late goal against Slovenia on a phantom foul. I still have no idea how that didn't have some sort of investigation after the World Cup. It was entirely incomprehensible.
