Yesterday was the hottest day of the year up here. It was 93 degrees here in Jersey. Running a race at that temperature sounds foolish.

Very foolish. Especially when many of those runners would not be acclimated to 90+ degree heat.

Title could have read, "Young Marathon Runner Dies in 70 Degree Weather." Nah, now whey would they print that.

Temps during the time the deceased raced were 63-70 degrees start to finish.

The runner, a 30-year-old man, collapsed shortly before 9 a.m. on Ocean Parkway at Brighton Beach Avenue, just after he had crossed the finish line for the race, according to race officials and a New York Police Department spokeswoman.

Temperatures were in the low 60s when the half marathon started at 7 a.m. on Saturday, and had risen to the low 70s by 11 a.m.,

A tale as old as time. No issues here.

Brooklyn NY shouldn’t have to run in 90 in the middle of May

In this particular case, I went back and checked the temp for every Brooklyn half marathon since 2010. They are around the week of the 18th of may every year.

None of the years had close to this temp. It topped out at 90 today there. Way higher than before. This is a legit reason for the heat injuries and they probably should have cancelled.

It hit 90 that day, but when this race was running it was between 60-70. Still warm for a race, but it did not hit 90 at the time this runner died.

What a laughable load of fascist horse shite. (The requirement to be vaxxed to participate, not your pointing it out.)

The heat is enough. Check out the list below for more proof.

Marathon deaths wiki

I was at the Savannah 2012 race. Temps were in the high 80s to low 90s with high humidity. They ended that race after the death.

From the story about the Savannah race.

Zeman was treated immediately by medical personnel and EMS, and then transported to a hospital where he later died, authorities said.

Some in this thread have stated the temps at racetime in this case were in 60s and 70s. Death could have occurred due to any number of factors:
Hyponatremia
Rhabdomyolysis
Sickle cell anemia
Heat stroke
Sudden cardiac arrest
A dozen other things.

Any of which could have been made worse by previously undetected myocarditis.

That’s right. Perfectly normal for 15 to suffer this fate.
