No, foreign players don't have any say about whether they are stashed for a year or two. Didi Louzada, for example, had no option to play in the NBA, except for the Pelicans, because we owned his rights.

Now, it's true that we worked out a plan with Didi that put him in the NBL, and Didi didn't have to do that and could have just stayed in Brazil. But the drafted player does not have to agree to be stashed.

More generally, I simply do not understand your confidence that both 2nd round picks will be sold or traded. Would you elaborate as to your reasoning?

more precisely they can draft an overseas player who still is under contract there and can’t come over for a couple years. If he never comes over it’s a wasted pick. The agents and FO will already have gone thru the scenarios before the pick

a player not under professional contract drafted in the 2nd has a choice...take what the team offers if it’s a 2-way or just don’t sign. The team doesn’t hold the players rights after that if he doesn’t and it’s a wasted pick. Again, the team should know before they pick a guy whether he will take a 2-way.

My point is that it’s up to the player, not the team. If you are a 2nd round prospect why would you take a 2-way if there’s a chance of getting a standard deal elsewhere, even if you have to be a camp invite?

they should take this one year opportunity where they don’t have roster space to get anything they can for those picks even if it’s not much at all. All they can offer a player (or two players) is a 2-way, other teams can offer more assuming the player is in demand. And if he’s not in demand, why draft him?
