Was it followed by a rim shot?

That thread other than Lima Whiskey and Chromdome has been pure cheerleading.

It’s been three months and this place still pretends like wartime spin/propaganda is “bizarre” or something unique to this conflict or to Ukraine.

As I’ve said, I think NATO expansion was a bad idea, and I think our hatred of Russia is a waste of time and effort, and a distraction from real threats, like China.

I also like Russia and Russian culture. I studied Russia and spent time there.

So I have my biases.

But this is an emperors new clothes moment.

I don’t understand how so many people are buying into this illusion. It’s like a mass hysteria.

I don't mind Ukraine pushing propaganda, but NYT and CNN said those guys had "ended their combat mission." It made it seem like they were rescued or blasted their way out.

Is it really though? It’s been a foregone conclusion for weeks.

The media’s obsession with #Azovstal is the only reason it’s even in the news.

I know what you mean. And I don’t disagree that western media is heavily biased towards repeating the Ukrainian party line.

I just don’t care about that bias, don’t see how it matters in any meaningful way, and don’t really understand why so many here cling to it. It’s very easy to see through, and overcompensating by going in the opposite direction to paint Russia in a positive light like so many here do is silly.

It goes beyond spin, he’s suggesting that these soldiers are being evacuated by Ukrainians, and implying that they’re being brought home.

But that’s not happening, they’ve become Russian prisoners of war.

It’s not a lie he can get away with. The public will know it’s not true.

If your leaders are telling you up is down. You’re going to lose confidence in them.

And? It’s blatantly obvious why he would say that—morale in his own country. Zelensky doesn’t owe a duty to western civilians to present accurate facts He’s trying to keep his own citizens motivated to fight. Duh.

If they do, then they do. But nothing he is putting out is different than what the Russians are telling their people on casualty numbers, or unlike the actions of every wartime government in world history.

Again, I just think it’s odd to pretend like you don’t know why he is saying what he is saying.

You do realize that Russia thought it would take Mariupol in 2 - 3 days not 2 - 3 months, don't you?

You do realize that Russia lost the battles for Ukraine's two largest cities don't, you?

Well, if it took 2 months to finally capture a city that should have taken 2 days. How do you know they are done trying to capture the 2 largest cities.

You sound like a moron. Until Russia concedes they aren't done trying to take those cities.

Let's circle back in 2 months and see if the Ukraine mouthbreathers still think they stand a chance in this war.

Unless another country or countries step in, Ukraine isn't winning this war.

It’s a bad idea because it won’t bolster morale. It’s going to undermine it.

Throw some predictions on the table, and I'll lay some money on the line.

It was only a matter of time; either Ukraine mounted some type of rescue or they were going to run out of food/ammo. Given the distance behind the front lines and lack of control of the sea, the rescue scenario was never really an option.

At this point in the war, the outcome of the battle for the city is pretty meaningless. Russia can celebrate that it only took 82 days to clear the city. Ukraine can celebrate that they held out for 82 days.
