If so, what function does it actually perform?

Raises money. It's just a booster club.

Founded in 1984 by legendary coach Skip Bertman, the Coaches Committee is the longest-tenured booster organization in LSU athletics. The support from this club is the driving factor in the program’s success and the reason we can provide our players with the best on and off the field. All funds from this club go directly to team needs and player development enhancements within the program, as well as facility upgrades. They are basically just a mens club until it comes time for a coaching search.

The all time russian classic:

Poster starts a thread to ask “Does anyone know where I can buy tickets for the Pontiff game and how much they cost?”

First reply is russian with “My tickets came with the [insert whatever coaches committee thing or TAF outing planned for the event] so I don’t know”.

Like it was entirely too difficult to just not reply if he didn’t know the answer, he had to slip that in

I remember Mr. Malcolm Moreau on the committee but he has to be approaching 90 years old.

Do they actually have any influence on a coaching search? I mean, it would be hard for me to believe Scott Woodward asked them for their thoughts before hiring Johnson.

It’s my understanding that the Coaches Committee presents the Athletic Director with a list of acceptable candid and the AD whittles it down from there.
