Tyrann Mathieu may be the best pound for pound football player of all time

Not just LSU. I’m talking to a buddy, and we started reminiscing on our conversations when he played, and then started watching highlights. God reached down and blessed him with something special that I’ve never seen before. He single-handedly changed—if not straight up won games. I remember talking to people during clutch moments and saying “we need TM7 to make a play here.” And he did it almost every time. We got hosed not getting to see him as a Junior, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better college football player in my 35+ years of watching. He’s actually underrated. It’s incredible what he did in such a short amount of time at LSU.

I was in the Georgia Dome for the SEC championship in 2011, never seen one guy will a team back to life like he did with those punt returns. The offense was dead in the water until he got the first touchdown, then the 2nd return was just ridiculous.

What I always found amazing what that he not only would cause a fumble but he somehow found a way to come up with the ball and score a touchdown. He did it so many times it wasn’t a fluke.

I still think it’s Joe Burrow.
216 pounds of greatness on and off the field and he plays the most important position in team sports.

I feel you! I think the downvotes are from the "literal perspective." I'm sure if you said pound for pound defensive/special teams player most would agree.
TM7 literally took over games as a defensive player, game after game. When the offense shite the bed with the typical 3 & out. I would yell at the TV saying were going to sic Brad Wing and that Defense on your arse. Then TM7 would come out and do TM7 stuff! The Honey Badger was flat out one of the best players in DBU history. I was pissed & flipping hated the guy for being a f#(%stick and getting kicked off the team. His presence was certainly missed. Dude was a "dog" out there, a generational talent in the defensive secondary. My .02

His open field tackle ability is the best I have ever seen.

I love Mathieu... but stop it.

Reggie Bush and it’s not even close.

I mean there are tons of other players that are in that category. De'Anthony Thomas, Percy Harvin, Reggie Bush, are just some recent ones that were dominant.

How is that calculation made exactly?
thank you.
thank you.

I would have agreed with this a few years ago. Then I saw joe burrow in 2019.

Stupid takes like this are why everyone laughs at LSU fans

Unless he gets a few more Pro Bowls and All Pros, he won't even get looked at for the HOF. Are you really saying he is better than the long list of light weight guys in the HOF? So defend your take or, as you say, GTFO.

He plays the ball, while all the others are playing each other. His skill set is extraordinary.

I was a student at the 2011 SECCG. Both punt returns went to the opposite endzone we were seating in. It was deafening to hear but was beautiful to watch the UGA side just motionless.

If he plays out his LSU career he sets a lot of all time records I think. As it is, I think he is top five all time for forced fumbles.
