So same as always? The bowl games started pumping millions of dollars into the best conferences. The TV contracts took this even further.

NIL is just putting some of that money into the players hands. None of it comes directly from the AD’s budget.

LSU has a top 10 athletic department budget/revenue but our boosters and NIL deals from local businesses won't be able to compete with the likes of Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State etc whether people want to admit that or not.

It is good for the players. The conferences are signing hundred million dollar media contracts. The schools are bringing in 50, 60, 70 millions of dollars in revenue from football and basketball. Even with the benefit of a full scholarship the players (arguably the most important peice of that revenue generating) weren't seeing a fraction of what the schools/conferences were bringing in. If someone or some entity wants to pay a kid several thousand dollars, which for many from poorer families could be a LOT of money, why should they be denied that opportunity while the schools for whom they play bring in millions from their efforts?

Now, could/should their be some sort of regulation? Probably. But I don't feel one ounce of sympathy for the NCAA or the schools. They saw this train coming from a mile away and did NOTHING to prepare for it. In fact, they fought tooth and nail to stop it.

The biggest disconnect between the fans of college football and basketball is them continuing to believe in the myth that they are "amateur sports" or at least just "extracurricular activities." They aren't. It is a multi-million/billion dollar entertainment BUSINESS. It becomes a business when ESPN is paying the SEC $300 million per year to broadcast games. It's a business when LSU, Alabama, Georgia, etc are selling season ticket packages for $1500 a seat and luxury suites for several thousand dollars. In every other such business model the "employees" would be paid. So why shouldn't the college athletes at least be able to compensate off of their NIL (even if it is a bit of a farce)?

I seem to remember people here vigorously defending the NIL, and shouting down anyone who said it may be a bad idea.

Which is a change from only the elite’s being able to legitimately compete for the best players.

Do people not remember the number one recruit in the country went to a FCS school? You think that happens without NIL?

Every person should be able to make money off of themselves. The way it is being done is terrible but NIL is a good idea.

This whole mess will end up in the Supreme Court and the athletes will win....

Nattys will go the richest NIL schools, period.

If you like that, you like shite on your ice cream.

My feeling is that it needs to play out. No way this is sustainable and it will self correct after a few years.

I think the NCAA or other governing bodies will just make it worse by meddling.
