I imagine a fair amount of NIL deals will be bad investments, i.e. the incoming athlete will fall flat on his, or her, face

"NIL needs a cap. Bad"
NIL doesn't need a cap. Does anyone cap you or I on the amount of money you or I can make? The answer is no. So we don't need to cap the amount these athletes are EARNING. They can't have jobs and definitely don't have time for a job even if they could. So pay them whatever they're worth

They need to bring back the one year sit out rule for transfers that are not graduates

The transfer portal is a much bigger problem than NIL

It’s not. At least not in its current form.

Small businesses will be tapped out quickly at these rates.
Billionaires, Fortune 500 Companies, and Drug Lords will take control of college football.

Thanks for stepping up Gordon. Hopefully this stupid NIL rule gets reeled in soon.

I’m sure it’s way up there.. according to Kayshon’s dad, Kayshon was offered a ton of money from Bama..he would not discuss how much and we didn’t ask..he said they did listen but Kayshon 1) loved LSU and 2) would have to face his friends and fans forever here in Louisiana if he transferred to Bama .. wasn’t worth it after only playing one more season..
I’m curious what Gordon paid Boutte, because if the article is accurate, he could’ve hired another attorney for the price of 1 player.

Nonsense. Jimbo specifically said that all of the 5 stars running to college station has zero to do with NIL. Saban has preached that NIL is being applied in a way that was never intended so you know his ethics and principles will prevent him from recruiting players using NIL in any manner other that it was originally intended.
Gotta love these two. Saban basically calls out Jimbo/A&M for buying recruits, and Jimbo fires a warning shot across the bow by saying that Saban shouldn’t be throwing stones when they were both part of cheating when they were on the same staff. Saban doubles down on statements while trying to outdo Jimbo by tampering with potential transfers and finding his own innovative ways to misuse the intent of NIL.

With an exception for coach turnover. Head coach, coordinator or your position coach goes, they should be able to look elsewhere

I'm glad there's people out there that care enough about lsu to pony up and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep a player here and happy.
We're all very lucky that it's not me in that position. I'd go back to hunting and tell ole baw good luck

it's fine if you dont want a cap but be prepared for the faggies to own college football. nobody has anything close to their money.

In all fairness NIL is full of potholes. These kids are so “me” oriented nowdays that taking money they have done nothing for is no guarantee of anything. How many 5 star kids busted out anyway? A ton of them and now with money involved by a booster and not the school I sure don’t see any loyalty coming from these kids just because they get paid.
Hell they are free agents and can take the money and run. There are going to be situations where kids take money and transfer. Then what about their contract with the booster? The school is not involved. These situations are going to end up in court. Keeping up is not the question because no school has control of the players even if you pay them. If a kid goes to a school just for money then many will leave when things don’t go their way.
Recruiting a class means nothing anymore because there is no way to even keep a kid if you give him hundreds of thousands of dollars. Recruiting and poaching will be a daily affair and that goes for every school including A&M and Bama.

Ok. You have a booster who is paying a kid who has never played a game in college. What value is he to the Booster’s business? The school is not paying him so if that player decides to leave he can and the money given to him is valueless to whoever paid him. There is no loyalty from these players and it is naive to think so. Lol. Boosters will grow tired of this and that is a guarantee. Welcome to reality.

quote:These are not investments. This is money resulting from being a fan. The ROI is reaped by the team they are fans of.
Agree. Realistically, its an expense with little to nothing in return.
NIL is nothing other than fandom disguised as advertisement. It is wig and sunglasses, and bad ones at that.
The ROI is that Boutte didn't enter the portal. Full stop. Transaction complete. There is no other return to be had, or expected.
It only grows from here. In volume and frequency. It will follow the same trajectory as season ticket sales or mech sales because it is money based on the same principle- fandom.
ETA: the REAL problem is, if you want to define it that way, the no-consequence transfer rules. Not the portal, but the waivers of consequence for use of the portal. The portal itself is just a digital tool. It actually was reducing tampering and gave players transparency to schools who were being vindictive. The waivers ruined the portal, and NIL exacerbated the ruination.
