St. Tammany DA tax voted down. Again.

Which begs the question, how in the hell did Montgomery get re-elected? The voters have consistently rejected every tax proposal he has hawked.

Montgomery laughs in Dominion.

People don't connect the tax proposal to him. They don't even think about it.

I absolutely did connect it to him and his office. It will be interesting to see if he sues the parish, knowing that doing so would shed some light on what is really going on.

And, what is going on?

Serious questions from someone who doesn’t live there:
1) Why would he sue the parish?
2) What’s really going on?

By law the parish has to fund the DAS office. The question becomes what constitutes adequate funding. Overall St Tammany under Montgomery has a pretty good office as opposed to the previous DA in Walter Reed.
Part of it is the anti tax sentiment that pervades thinking in the Parish and probably most of it is that people did not know about the election. But if the Parish Council is underfunded the office, then the council and Parish President can be sued.
There is a large number of newcomers from the South Shore....mostly from the West Bank who don't believe in paying for the services that they get or more accurately don't realize how the population growth that they are a part of directly impacts the services that made St. Tammany so attractive in the first place

Money - my guess, his office probably wastes a shite ton of cash. Instead of being conservative, he seems to want to hit up the taxpayers (again). My question is, what exactly are the residents getting for their money? Show me that the office is well run and that the money is truly needed. As of now, I don’t feel that way. St. Slammany is a distant memory as the Northshore becomes the “New Orleans East - North.”
2) What’s really going on?
Reread #1.

Most people have no idea what the tax was about and why DA office wanted it.
Now DA will sue parish so that’ll be fun.

Reed’s “proclivities” aside, what makes you say this. Quite frankly, this is not what I hear.

Yet other tax proposals pass. Such is life with (generally speaking), well informed voters.

Montgomery's office is probably the most transparent in the state and probably the most effective on top of that.
Yeah, he's bitching because the Parish Concil made actual cuts to his budget. Not the b.s. baseline cuts but real cuts. He has to function with a budget of under 4 million a year to oversee the administration of justice and legal affairs for a population approaching 300,000 people and whose voting public treats it like it barely has 100K.

You have no idea of how corrupt Reed actually was. There was a case wherein he covered for his step son in a negligent manslaughter charge due to a late night boating accident on the Tchefuncte 20+ years ago. He and his people were using campaign funds and actual DA funds for their Thursday night dinners at Sal and Judy's. If you were part of his inner circle you could get away with just about anything. There are cases where he was railroading defendants in prosecution by actually threatening the defense attorneys with jail because they would demand discovery. He covered for a cokehead parish attorney for years as the guy stole money.
Then he strongarmed St.Tammany Hospital to give his slap dick brother a job that he never showed up for. I could talk about his other " proclivities" as well.
I don't know Montgomery. But I know Reed and I know that Reeds office did not have to ask for the money and the council never worried about what he was doing with the money either.

Why are you assuming what I know and don’t know? I would hazard a guess that when it comes to local politics, I’m far more knowledgeable than most.

Have at it. What you listed was known about for quite some time. Indefensible comes to mind. “Proclivities” was a tongue in cheek reference to that list (and more).
Nonetheless, the moniker of St. Slammany no longer applies imho, and I fail to see how money is the root cause of that. Hopefully, Montgomery can right the ship and start putting away criminals again. If so, then he deserves the cash. If not, then someone else will deserve the opportunity to do the job.
FWIW, I don’t have anything against Montgomery. I am being sincere when I say that I hope that he can get his office in line with public expectations. He can be the DA for the next two decades for all that I care, as long as he is effective.

By design, he was hoping to get it passed by low voter turnout. There is no reason this should have been the only item on the ballot I had to vote for. A total waste of money having this on the ballot by itself.
