Now that we are 4 months in, who is happy we hired Kelly? Who still would rather Riley?

Me personally, I did not like Riley as a candidate for LSU. Felt he would have trouble facing SEC competition with his background. My initial reaction to Kelly was that we settled. After a week or so of reading about the hire was a lot more optimistic. 4 months later I am really high on this hire. Kelly is doing a ton of little things right while handling a massive roster overhaul. Every aspect just feels right at the moment.

Kelly makes me feel more comfortable with the structure of the program.

Kelly will build a long lasting top shelf program. He emphasizes character, accountability, and the little things that make a strong foundation. I am not sure we'll win a title because that is hard as frick to do and requires some luck, but we'll be a top 10 program under his watch, in the hunt most years, and the next guy will have a finely tuned machine to work with.

Settled? Was it Saban/Belichick or bust for you?

I'm 100% happy with kelly and would have felt good with Riley too. With riley I know we'd have paired excellent qb play and offensive scheme with the lsu's traditional war chest of athletes on the defensive side of the ball.

But, there's one reason why I think woody hired kelly. Riley has never had to rebuild a team before, never had to repair a torn locker room. He took over stoops program and kept rolling. Kelly has rebuilt several programs now

Didn’t want Riley. His teams don’t play defense.

Kelly because he is embracing tougher competition instead of running and hiding from it like a scared little bitch.

Just stopped reading right there huh? Lol.

Eta: there were valid concerns when we hired Kelly. Everyone knows that. Very happy with the direction so far though.

All this plus the talent he will have at his disposal is a very good feeling.

Took me a few minutes to figure out who Riley was. That should tell you all you need to know. Oklahoma is an easy sustainable program to run. Not sure he proved anything yet. USC isn’t easy.

I was very skeptical of the Kelly hire. I felt
Scott Woodword was playing it too safe. But the more I read or hear, I think he will make
LSU a power house that will only get better
Year after year. If he crushes his first 2 years
I can see us recruiting at a much greater level.

If Kelly crushes it out the gate with this rebuild we are going to be filthy moving forward. I have tempered expectations for the upcoming season though.

Most wanted Riley at the time. But we didn’t really know Kelly was an option. Different coaches but somewhat similar. Old & experienced vs young and innovative. Both dominate the regular season, but come up short in big games.

Notre Dame picks its own schedule and then Does not have a conference championship. That and his age were my concern coming in. He also had academic standards that hindered him from having a roster anywhere near LSU’s talent top to bottom. What I did not know about him was just how detailed his approach is. How good of a manager he is. The accountability factor. Those are all things that will be huge at LSU if we have the same grade talent as we always have in the past. Recruiting is still a “to be determined” but I am liking what I am seeing.

No I read your entire post, but it's hard to take anybody serious who says they felt like the hiring of Kelly was settling.

Who exactly wouldn't have been settling to you?

I would consider hiring somebody like Napier setting. In no way, shape, or form, is hiring Kelly settling.
