I’ve Googled this and didn’t find much, so I’m consulting the encyclopedia of all things important: the OT. I bought my 9-year-old a good leather Rawlings baseball glove a year ago. It’s well broken in now, but the ball pops out frequently. At first, I thought he just sucked at fielding. That seemed the most logical explanation after years of watching him play, but I used his glove the other day, and the ball popped out several times on me. I know that I don’t suck (first team all district softball here), and I noticed that the leather in the glove seems almost slippery. Is there a way to treat a baseball glove to make it more sticky?

TLDR: Little Braxtyn keeps dropping the ball, and mama thinks his glove is exceptionally slippery.

It’s fine. He’s formed it over time by playing. It’s broken in for his smaller hand. I swear the leather is slippery compared to the leather on my glove.

Don't use glove oil on it and rub dirt and grass into the pocket. Let it dry naturally after that.

You’re just in time to go post in that travel ball thread from earlier. But if he’s 9 and you haven’t already gotten on a AAA $3000/season travel team, there’s 0% chance he makes a high school roster.

Just coat the inside his mit with stick um. Problem solved. But you will have to look for a new league to play in.

Take some sandpaper to the inside of the glove. More friction, fewer errors.

If you are really using the glove as an excuse for why we had to cut him, that really is all too fitting. Fielding aside (since he is obviously going pro in something other than sports), your kid is destined to have a life of mediocrity because he has a parent that is willing to blame his own failures and lack of talent/hard work on the equipment. Are you also blaming Marucci for the fact that his average was floating with the Mendoza line before we jettisoned him from the team? Honestly glad my guys don't have to be in his presence any more, not only for being deadweight athletically but also for such a poor attitude. Will call it addition by subtraction, and I'm sure my guys' parents would agree.

That’s what I was thinking, honestly. Seems like the obvious solution.

Um, you're a girl. You suck at baseball.

Seriously though what model rawlings glove did you buy?

ETA scratch that question if you don't wanna bring the trolls out. Just use sand paper.
