Didn’t CJJ sign the best recruiting class in baseball?

I completely understand the criticism going on right now but, we just have to put the pitchforks away. JJ and his assistants have a track record of elite recruiting. Let it play out.
If this stuff is still going on in year 3 or 4, there’s a time to start seriously considering replacement. I doubt that happens though. The team will have a nice run the next decade

Means absolutely zero in baseball where half those kids could get drafted. They’ll re-rate the class after the draft and when we hit the transfer portal to fill holes made from it.

Hopefully NIL will have an impact on some of the players turning down the MLB. Only time will tell.

Why is this being down-voted? Isn't this the case?
If we get commits from projected 1st rd picks, we'd better have a backup plan because in all likelihood they're going pro.

We do now. That wasn’t the case for the last few years though.

We definitely need to wait until after the draft but I would be very surprised if we are not still the number one class after the draft.
Vandy is number 2, but they have 4 of the top 10 HS recruits in their class. I'm going to assume they lose all four of them.
We have some very good position players in the class and we should get some studs on campus but we need stud pitchers. I think this class will deliver the pitchers we need and make us a very dangerous team in 2023.

BTW the recruiting diehards already know this but for the casual observers of recruiting, Project just added some really good post on the incoming recruits on his recruiting thread. On page 29 he breaks down the incoming infielders, page 30 incoming catchers, page 31 incoming lefties along with Baytiger updated top 100.

If one school has 11 of the top 100 players committed and the other has 1 in the top 100 committed who has a better chance of signing the most top 100 players and filling out a better class over all in the transfer portal. This isn’t rocket science and now with NIL there will be more chances for players to come to college.

I mean..we’re tied for 4th in the SEC…other than Tennessee (9-0) and Arky (7-2)..it’s pretty much a coin toss.

I know Tennessee and especially their center fielder aren’t the most popular folks on this board, but this quote is too great to not share. Especially if you hate Vandy:
Drew Gilbert on if he noticed the yelling from Vanderbilt fans reduce over the course of the weekend: "You definitely notice that. When you're stomping on someone's throat, it tends to get a little quieter."

Few years back Florida had a team playing like this …. The very next year they went to Omaha

I was looking at an article of the top 100 pitchers in college baseball.
We had one pitcher, Blake Money, at 91. Fl. State had three in the top 21, Tn. 3 in the top 57, Vandy 2 in the top 32, Tx. two in the top 54, Arkansas 2 in the top 72. Southeastern and La. tech both had pitchers ranked higher than us.
We have average pitching and a poor defense that is not a great combination. I'm not giving up on this year by any means but I think we will really see the Johnson hire paying dividends next year. We have 14 pitchers in the class, if you include Guidry, and none are ranked in the first two rounds. You don't need great defense if you strike them out.

I hope the whistler was included in that.

I don't like it. It reeks of the lack of class that permeates Vitello's program.

If those 11 are 1st rd picks and the one isn't, who has the best chance of getting a top-100 player on campus?
Posted on 4/3/22 at 8:30 pm to ProjectP2294
This was a good one. But Vitello talking about Jordan Beck and calling him Mike Honcho might be my favorite interview ever.

Beings there is only 36 picks in the first round and some of those will be college kids then your argument would never happen and is pointless. As of now the MLB top 100 has 12 high school kids in the first round. Zero of them are LSU recruits, half of them are Vanderbilt recruits though.

Signing highly ranked classes has not been our problem. I
believe we took way too many early commitments from player who were pretty much peaked out physically by the time they were 16. We have got to have a mixture of players ready to play with some that have upside and can be developed.
